Good News Everyone! It is done! Website, Forums, and Wikis are now all running on our own servers. Normally this would have happened much quicker. Even with 3+ GB of media attachments the transfer of data went fairly quickly and smoothly. Sadly, the same could not be said for website and forum software. Until last week, those were not under my purview and updates thereof had fallen seriously behind. Needless to say, the update process turned out to be quite involved. If you ever find yourself running a WordPress site, heed my advice – Keep it and its plugins updated regularly; it will save you and others a lot of headaches in the future.
A few things should be noted:
- The forum style has been changed to a greenish style as a visual indicator that this is the new server.
- The PM layout has been returned to its default setting, which is better for those (like me) that have a long list of PM references.
- The Veterancraft Wiki URL is now http://wiki.veterancraft.net. A redirect has been added for the old URL http://www.veterancraft.net/wiki.
- The Lore Wiki URL is now http://lore.veterancraft.net. As with the regular wiki, a redirect has been added for the old URL http://www.veterancraft.net/lorewiki
- Thread “subscriptions” are no longer available. The forum plugin refuses to function.
I’ll be keeping an eye on the web server logs for the next couple of days to see how things are behaving.
