Hey group!

I've been tinkering with a map of VeteranCraft and I wanted to show you guys what I've got. It's nothing spectacular but its fun for me to play with.

I've got some of the city names and stuff, but if you've got a location you want added, just reply with the places name and coordinates and I'll put it on there!

Anyway, hope you all like!

I told the doctor I broke my leg in two places. He told me to stop going to those places.

Nicely done =) It feels like an old map, maybe it should have the kinda frayed edges applied to it, and since the map has some extra distance where you cant actually walk around the edge it shouldn't interfere with any settlements. Just a thought, I really like the way it looks =)

Whoa, looks awesome! O_O Of course there's other places around, but you marked the main residential areas quite nicely. =) I really like the colours too.

Absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!

Is your source image layered, so that you can easily add new locations as they come about?

Bonzai: edges are frayed! Yay!

Frelling: it's just a photoshop image, so I can add and delete stuff as I want. As soon as you name your place I'll put it on there!

Rikki: Thanks!

Anyone else: If you've got a place name you want added, please let me know and I'll put it on there! I'll see you all in-game!

Sounds like we have a match made in [s]heaven[/s] Vetronia!

Ryan is starting out with computer graphics (and PhotoShop) and Pherian is the professional. "No, no, grasshopper! Dither On! Dither Off!"

What a wonderful opportunity for knowledge transfer.

Large Continent Names

Before you get into the names, I want to let you know that I used Greek and Latin roots to make them. I feel like this give more meaning to them as real words and names are shaped from roots as well.

-A large piece of the Northeast continent could be called the "Kingdom of Noxtalia" (Nox-tah-lee-ah). Why this name you ask? Nox is a root that means night, or dark.

-Northwest continent can be named "Levilin" (Leh-vih-lin). Levi is a root that means light which can be the opposite of Noxtalia since that is about darkness. Another plus to this name is that it sounds kind of Elvish, which sort of matches up with the light idea.

-The other piece of the Northeast continent can be called "Medivann" (Meh-dee-vahn). Medi is the root for middle, which would be inbetween the darkness and light.

Now I am guessing you are piecing this together? If not, the reason for these names and roots are for lore, something that every very successful server needs. I can do a bit of writing, but with our awesome community, we may even have a very good writer in the crowd.

So, I hope you like the names, and while I would like to keep the initial roots, if you have suggestions for the parts of the names AFTER the roots, that would be amazing.

And one last thing, I will be posting another post using roots in a bit to give names to groups of islands and oceans.

I have awesome shoulders.

Cool name! What section exactly? Or just kind of identify a random area to the northeast?

Cool beans. Once you're finished I'll update the map. Probably by tomorrow at the latest!

Digging the names. Very nice work.

Good ideas ryan. I also checked out this list:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L.....cal_places

to get gears turning more as well, and adding words like 'isla' for island, like 'Isla Reynes'.

"El Cubano" was named because it reminded me of Cuba, lol.

I also checked out islands in the Greek Isles and Scotland. Tons of inspiration out there!

Names of Islands

-The larger island that is just a tiny bit North of Paradil can be called "Isla de Physitris" (Fiz-ih-tris). Note that this name has nothing to do with the stuff you are about to read below and is just there so that island is at least named.

First of all, cut an imaginary line down starting at Vetropolis.

-West of that line, those islands can be called the "Felicion Islands" (Feh-lih-shun). Felic means happy.

-East of the line, the islands can be called the "Isles of Malstorn" (Mal-storn). Mal means mad.

While these names sound pretty nice in my eyes, I don't feel as strong about them. The lore would be harder to make, so if anyone has better ideas, that would be awesome.

Next comes the oceans..

Names of the Oceans

-Northern Ocean changes to..

"Unitin Sea" (You-nih-tin or You-nee-tin). Uni means single, which makes sense since it's kind of 'cut off' from the other Sea thanks to the land.

-Great Southern Ocean changes to..

"Xenitone Sea" (Zen-ih-tone). Xen means foreign, and this Sea is 'cut off' from the large pieces of land.

-Western Ocean changes to..

"Solriff Ocean" (Sole-riff). Sol means sun, makes sense because of the continents on the West side being named after happy/light roots.

-Eastern Ocean changes to..

"Lunizi Ocean" (Loon-ih-zee). Luni/luna/lun means moon which goes with the night/mad theme of the East side.

-When talking about these four Oceans/Seas, people can refer to them as the "Tetrajin Waters" (Tet-ruh-jin). This is to one, make it easier to say all of the pieces of water at once, and two, I have some ideas for lore using this name.

I hope you like these names since they took a lot of hair pulling to think of, haha. Anyways, do we need anything else named right now?

I have awesome shoulders.

In the process of updating the map now as I cook spaghetti. :)

Um, still need exact definitions on some landmass areas, but otherwise, major deserts, inland seas, lakes, etc would be cool. Nothing is needed per se though, just what you'd like to see added!

Thanks for all your work!
