Hey guys i am currently stuck in expanding a way in my resort. A guy named boobies321 has made a dirt shack with chest right by were i wish to expand. This was recently made. Im wondering how to handle this should i place i sign saying to take down the place in a certain amount of time? Or am i able to take it down? i dont want the player to lose his items so i waont expand the res there. I also would wish for him to take it down so he can get all his possetions. (i will also take any other way of handling this) So can i get anybodys oppinion on how to handle this?

Since both Meat and Frell are busy with RL issues, I'll step in an answer as best as I can.

In short, first come, first serve, unless he violated the 10 block rule. You only recourse is to come to an agreement with him. I recommend you as you suggested and drop a sign asking him to get in touch with you. Per the logs, he was on a day ago, so he is a current player.

Beyond that, the only sure method through which a player can legally reserve an area is by zoning it as part of a residence. You could build a border or appropriately mark an area with signs and torches to lay claim, but that is not as definitive as a residence and may be subject to future claims.

Please provide a set of coordinates so that I may investigate further.

I think we need stronger rules against building near cities.

Part joke, part serious. The more rules, the less common sense, which is already a failing art.

I agree with mud. I've actually been considering removing the 10 block rule and just tell people if you don't buy it don't complain when someone else does. Otherwise, people might res 1 block, and in doing so, claim a 10x10 area for .10. It just seems like it's overcomplicating things.

I don't know. I don't want to make a big deal out of this, but it's a big problem if a city is being built and is planning to expand, but they don't have enough money to expand with. It can also be annoying for a bunch of strange houses to be built right outside of a wall. I'm also not saying this for my sake.. considering I live in the ocean. πŸ˜›

Like Mud said earlier. If you don't have the dough, mark it and post signs. Many servers use that policy implicitly or explicitly. While that doesn't prevent someone from building - say they're illiterate - they can't claim complete ignorance.

You can't have your cake and eat it too. If you provide a portal ship to your town, then don't be surprised if players build near your town. If it happens, then you have the same recourse as real cities, sans eminent domain, negotiate a buyout. If you don't have the Shillings to res, you could always issue bonds or ask other participants in your city project to chip in.

Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experiences of others, are also remarkable for their disinclination to do so. - D. Adams

Well, whatever is best for the server. I may not like it, but I can see the other side and say that it doesn't matter to me as long as it's for the best.

That is true, tony. You can just build a giant wall past your residence. πŸ˜› That's probably what I would do if I ended up making something else fairly large.

Oh, ffs, wall/torches/signs, use whatever delineates a boundary. Come on, you guys are admins, you should be used to the usual whining, whaling, and whatever else comes from a bunch of underaged semi-pubesant players. It's saddening that it is coming from the staff.

Build an effing marked boundary. How much of a bump in IQ scores does that require? Hell, dogs, mark their territory instinctively. Now, I haven't been able to gauge the age of our mods of late, but I suspect I'm at least decade ahead of them, or so. Seriously, it doesn't bode well, for a mod to whine about something this trivial.

You roll the dice with assumptions, sometimes you win, sometimes you loose. Regardless, build some backbone and learn to roll with the punches.

I guess my posts may have sounded like I was whining, but I was simply trying to express my opinion, not whine at all. Also, just to clarify, that last post of mine was only me agreeing with Tony. I might as well do myself some good at least and say sorry for any trouble..

I think a good way to go is like what Vetra is doing (Building a clearly defined wall around the future city). Even a temporary wall that's like 3 blocks high, with a sign on the outside every 5 or 10 blocks saying something like 'future site of xxxx'.

My issue with this kind of land claiming is what's to stop someone from claiming half the entire map? I really just wish people had common courtesy and just didn't intentionally build next to people's stuff without asking.

Mutual respect and common sense would go way further than more rules.

EDIT: I didn't even see your guys' previous 4 posts when i posted this lol.

The idea would be "we are actually working on this area". If a project is clearly outdated, they don't really have a legal leg to stand on. Putting some temp roads on and a limited wall around it, while there's clear signs of progress, help.

The rules as they are I consider fine. The 10-distance rule lets me keep a free area around my place, plus it means I could put a reservation on a future building location with the first setup. If, on the other hand, I clearly have abandoned a project, people can go ahead. There's leeway for abuse, but also flexibility that the staff can make judgement calls on.
