As many of you know I have been busy with moving stuff (still not done, cause we couldn't hire help)... and now I see that, oh, everything is changing here.
And it does indeed seem like everything.
I've tried to have my husband explain it as he reads about it, but I am still confused about this new residence stuff, how much it may or may not cost me to keep what I have already paid a crapload to residence...if I have to re-do everything... and what the deal is with portal ships (I now have to pay a monthly rent for a portal ship I've already paid for???)
I feel like I am going to be on a brand new server having to learn everything again. And start pretty much everything over again.
And... the thing is... I know I will be continually referred back to these confusing posts I have already seen when I try to learn it all.
Is there ONE PLACE with a COHERENT list of information about all these new rules, commands, etc.??????
Trying to piece it together based on random questions and answers in a variety of locations is not easy.
And...yeah...I am a bit ticked.
Think about it: You give 3+ notice that Seraphs Rhelm or such will go away... giving people LOTS of time to adjust. But BAM, all this is sprung on us in a matter of short weeks. (It's not like I wasn't trying to keep up, either. I kept popping into to forums and such just to make sure I wasn't falling behind.)
I respectfully request that there be more notice on such things (at least consistent notice. I assumed if there was tons of notice for a new rhelm, there would be similar notice for, oh, changing the entire game of Veterancraft.)
While trying to get this moving done, there was no urgency for me to (in a free moment) try to get on here and maintain or update stuff. Suddenly... I am freaking out because it sounds like (based on what my husband said) I have to either re-do every zone and subzone and such within my city (with shillings) OR take everything down ... or within 30 days or it might be considered abandoned?!?! And then something about selling old residences to the city??
I am so lost.
Sorry for being annoyed.
I know this took tons of work on Frelling and other's behalf. And I am sure these changes will make a positive difference in the long run... but...
Perhaps if you had integrated changes a bit at a time. Instead... new map...portal ship charges...new residence...and who knows what else I have missed.
Please tell me there is a coherent, complete guide to all this somewhere.
Thanks.

EDIT: I just wanted to add that, as I ramble and complain, it seems like you folks have come up with a lot of great new ideas (the East, West, etc portals) for helping people (especially new folks) get around and such. I think the things you incorporated will really help newbies find places to build and get around much more easily....and then hopefully get them to stay.

You are safe, your items are safe, your residence is currently "locked", however you can sell it back to VC for your shillings, .... read more on the FAQ link above.

The FAQ tried to present all the info in a clear manner, but I can imagine it can still get confusing, especially if you're under stress.
Now most of your confusion isn't stuff I feel safe answering, since I'm not staff. I can, however, assure you that you won't be paying rent for your existing Portal Ships. There will be no new Vetronia Portal Ships, but they are staying. Arda Portal Ships will cost 100k each and Arda Portal Ships that dock at Spawn (Exodus) will have to pay upkeep each month, other Portal Ships in Arda won't.
Now, as far as the rush, here's what I know: Right now, you can request 100% refunds for Residences, and GriefProtection costs 1 shilling per column (whereas Residence is 0.1s per block). At the end of july they currently plan to change this to 75% refunds and 3 shilling per column, if I recall things right. So you should still have a month to decide what you want to do, whether you are going to GP your existing city or abandon it, or wait it out and accept a lower refund rate and more expensive GP. (Note that at 3 shillings per column GP is as expensive as a 30-block-high residence, and you get the full column for it.)
And if your residences average a height of 10 or more blocks, then refunding them and replacing them with GP claims right now would not cost you extra shillings as long as there's 100% refunds and 1s/column prices.
For the full details, don't worry, there's no rush, just look at the FAQ when you're not feeling rushed. It's a bit of a read but it should help.
There's no rush to move, Vetronia will still be here. Also, your ship won't be rented, that's only if you add a ship to Exodus.
Your residences are all 100% refundable, and then you re-protect your stuff with GP (its intimidating at first but so much easier than res). Also, when you claim with GP your cost is 25 times cheaper per block, so it's actually giving you a net benefit in shillings.
We've tried to make the transition as happy and positive as possible. Residences won't be need to be moved until the end of July, although you're free to convert now, because for the first month, GP claims will be 3 times cheaper.
Go ahead and read thru this and take a big sigh of relief: http://veterancraft.net/arda-faq
