Want to run on 1.4.4? See this post.
So, the burning question in everyone's mind is when will Veterancraft upgrade to 1.4.4? The short answer is that it depends on CraftBukkit. CraftBukkit needs to go through the process of de-obfuscating the Minecraft server code and see what has changed and what needs to be tweaked in CraftBukkit. This takes time.
The good news is that CraftBukkit is ahead of the curve and has already released several Development Builds; which let's us test our existing plugins and see how well they fare and what needs updating. But even if all plugins pass muster, it doesn't mean that we will be updating just yet. Development builds are exactly that - development builds. They are intended for plugin developers and bleeding edge players that want to help contribute to CraftBukkit by being willing test subjects. There is no guarantee of stability and such builds are clearly marked as "use at your own risk." I'm certain that none of our staff would enjoy the pew-pews and rage quits by our members should they see their hard earned Shillings disappear or their residences laid to waste after a premature upgrade; without having confidence that almost everything is working.
That said, the transition from 1.3.2 to 1.4.2 went relatively smoothly and was solid enough that we had actually considered using a Development Build rather than waiting for a Beta Build only days after the initial release. So... if things work the same this time around I would hazard a guess that we'll probably be considering a switching in a week or less.
For now, we've got the unpleasant task of testing our slate of plugins. Fortunately, 25% of them are in-house projects, which will most likely work without changes. For the rest, we'll have to see what needs updating and when their developers plan to fix things that need to be fixed. But don't hold it against me if it doesn't happen that fast, because I'm just about to go see how bad, or not, the situation is on our test server.

For those of you that are curious, or simply didn't think twice about hitting the Upgrade button, I have started up the latest CraftBukkit Development Build at play.veterancraft.net:25765. Some of you may remember this as the address of the Vanilla Minecraft we were running while we were waiting for an official release.
Please feel free to visit and horse around on the development build. Keep in mind that all Veterancraft rules still apply. Just don't think you will get away with murder just because this isn't the real thing. I will keep the server running, BUT - a VERY BIG BUT - this server will reboot unannounced as I may add or remove certain plugins for testing. Welcome, you are now a bleeding edge tester! At least you will have an outlet closer to home to try 1.4.4 things.
Here is a list of plugins that have been tested and are running:
- PermissionBukkit - basic permissions. Thus any donor perks will be will allowed, IF the corresponding plugin is enabled.
- Essentials - tp, spawn, and the usual commands.
- JCChat - Colored chat.
If you are an experienced CraftBukkit player and know some of the inner workings, I'll be more than happy to hear of any bugs that you have discovered. Things, like dreaded "internal errors", lag, items disappearing, etc. Keep in mind that at this point, this is mostly a vanilla server with a FEW plugins. I know that I'm probably opening up a potential can of worms by having said that. If you are trying to use a command or ability that doesn't seem to do anything, check first if the plugin is running in these posts.

This is a link to the 1.4.2 pre-release. It's distributed by Mojang, and it works wonderfully for those who hit update on accident.

The good news is that only 4 out of 31 plugins have problems and that is due to a change in the Bukkit API. These are easy fixes and shouldn't present a problem. I wish that were all, but there are other issues such as random crashes, items and entities disappearing, potion-related functionality, random disconnects, and more that still need to be address.
I'll see about adding more plugins to the test server (play.veterancraft.net:25765) later tonight so that we can give it our own shakedown cruise.
