Obviously we are all excited about 1.8, but it looks like we'll have to participate in a waiting game to see if Bukkit and/or Spigot will actually update, especially with Microsoft in the mix.

In the interim, we have deployed a Vanilla 1.8 Minecraft server for Veterancraft members. The purpose of this server is to provide a place for Veterancraft members to try out new features without having to resort to single player mode or suffering the pitfalls of finding a suitable server elsewhere while we await to see what is going to happen with Minecraft.

The server address is vc18.java-craft.org. Keep in mind that this is a vanilla server - no plugins, no mods, no extensions - except for what comes out-of-the-box. The server has a copy of our current banned player list to prevent those that have wrong us in the past from doing it again.

Keep in mind that we have no grief protection tools whatsoever other than simple administrative commands. For that reason, spawn protection is enabled and encompasses a 400 x 400 block area centered around spawn. In other words, you will have to travel at least 200 blocks before you can build. We suggest you build farther away to minimize becoming a griefing victim. The world size is limited to 8K x 8K but is not pre-generated; likewise, there is no map. We may look into modding our server to provide some basic amenities (e.g. dynmap) depending on the length of this transition period.

All applicable Veterancraft rules apply on this server; no exception! If you have to ask whether a rule applies, then you already have your answer. Griefing, theft, and misbehaving are dealt with in the same manner as Arda and Vetronia. PvP is enabled, provided its by consent.

This server is provided "as is" and is hosted on our remote test server. We reserve the right to restart the server without announcement nor will we adjust our development efforts to ensure its maximum up time. After all, this is our development platform on which we do all our work to minimum Arda's down time.

We are anxiously awaiting the update to MCP. When that comes out, we'll take a look and try to get a feel of what it would take to update CraftBukkit ourselves.

Thanks!

I love the option of playing 1.8 on a server where there could still be a social aspect.  Even without the McMMO stuff.

Is chat a plug-in?  Will we be able to chat?

I have to say it did some wonky stuff on me.  But I am guessing it is a 1.8 glitch.  Netherportal weirdness.

EDIT:  Ooops, I lied.  I didn't see signs of anyone, so I thought it was glitchy.  It was that FinalSnow had a portal nearby...

Its a vanilla server, just type away to chat like in VC, though there are no parties, titles, etc.

Also /r for reply doesn't work, so you have to /w to whisper back again.

The Vanilla 1.8 server will be down for a day or two as we move it to another server.
