I’m sorry to say that despite our best efforts to have the upgrade done before our 5th Anniversary on June 22nd, it’s not going to happen. I’ve been laid up with a wicked summer cold for the past week and it looks it isn’t going to get better for a while. Most plugins are ready for deployment to the test server. Unfortunately, the show-stopper is the new Shoppe plugin.
We’ve been down this road before last year. We were pushing a major shop update out with the 1.8 update, but chose to forgo it because it would stall everything else much longer. The good news is that basic functions of the new plugin are working, but we are having a bear of a time getting its queries to browse and search shops working without incurring a significant performance penalty.
Unfortunately – and thankfully – we can’t run the old shop plugin under 1.9. I say thankfully, because it would tempt us to delay the release of the new one once more, which in turn would be delayed by something more important, yadda, yadda, yadda – you get the drift. Instead, we have changed our focus to release the new plugin with a limitws search capability.
What does that mean? Ideally, if someone searches for an enchantment such as Unbreaking II (UB2) without any further qualifiers, the search should return all items that have a UB2 enchantment. That could mean items, books, etc. Instead, players will have to give exact qualifiers. For example, if you are looking for an enchanted book with UB2 – enc boo ub2 – the search will only return enchanted books with that exact enchant. If they have other enchants on them, they will not match. I guess this is still good news, because the current shop plugin doesn’t even handle enchanted items, let alone searching for them.
Timewise, we expect a 1 1/2 man-weeks to get to a point of deploying to the test server for a shakedown cruise of all plugins. How many calendar days that translates into is unknown at the moment? It all depends how quickly I recover, since these tasks cannot be handed off to someone else. I’m hoping that the development and testing will be done before July 4th.
I'll have more specific details later this week as my doctor figures out what exactly is going on and what treatment to persue.

In regards to progress. Looks like I'm on the road to recover - better living through chemistry . The cough fits while still there have ameliorate to a point that I'm not spitting all over my screen and feeling like I got sucker punched - that's probably TMI. Turns out that I had a light case of pneumonia. Not sure how one can get that having fun in the sun, but I managed to.

Most people have some sort of disease in them that the immune system is actively fighting. The disease is basically waiting for a moment of stress in your life to take hold. You can get sick pretty much doing anything anymore with some of the super bugs coming out.
At any rate, glad to hear about the progress, and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Glad to hear you're feeling at least a little better, frelling (I've had a bad cold myself before turn into bronchitis then go into pneumonia after - sucker punch feels about right for the feeling, took me a month and a half and antibiotics to finally kick it)... health first, server (and sanity) second!

I forgot to mention that we will also be rolling in any 1.10 changes right out of the gate.
Crap... does this mean the nether's gonna be reset again due to the new blocks?... I just finished building a blaze farm to prepare for 1.9 brewing changes...

Yes, I have several beacons and miscellaneous stuff in the nether. If it's gonna get reset, i'd like advance warning if possible.

Right now, the best I can say is "no news is good news." Things are moving forward, but slowly. If you see any progress, it will be on the test server. As the last post indicated, this is not a small change to the server. Not only is 1.9/1.10 a massive undertaking to make compatible with our plugins, but the rewrite of the shop plugin is a herculean task.
Another update post would just take frelling away from coding. Please trust that if a post were made, it would be very similar to the last one. We ARE closer, but at this time there is no reliable eta I can give, and I feel safe speaking for frelling that he would not give one either.
Thank you for checking in....we hope to see you both/all online again soon! Even still on 1.8, VC is the best around!
Oh, and to Trip and Vyska's question, yes, we will be getting a new Nether AND End with this update, to my knowledge. And the Outer Reaches will be shut, as usual, and replaced with Seraph's Realm. If you have anything you want to keep that is currently in a secondary world, get them out.

I've been thinking a bit and found it sad that people visit VC less frequently. Untill a thought struck me:
"Would it be possible to play without the economy plugin for a while?"
As far as I know most plugins, made by others, VC uses have already updated atleast to 1.9, and quite a few also to 1.10. That would allow the players of VC to play with the new 1.9/1.10 features and as things settle you can continue with the development of the economy plugin and when it's ready implement it into the server.
I am not a server owner, have never been one and don't know every detail. I figured I could throw it in there and see what people think.

Personally I really like this idea. Unfortunately I don't think that others would like it. Without the plug in, people have the risk of being griefed by others. If this were to happen I wouldn't mind the risk, but with the update there are always those people that come back and play for a little bit, and there is always new people to join. Right now, I feel I can trust everyone on the server to play fair, but with others I don't know how to feel.
Also, currently I am working on a pretty big mining project. It would be nice to have the plug in for the mining levels, but if this idea were to happen I wouldn't mind missing out on some of those levels.

I think you slightly misread my post. The griefprevention plugin is 1.10 ready. That would be able to be implemented. The only plugin I suggested on leaving out for now would be the Economy plugin. The one that handles all shilling transactions etc.
