The good news is that Seraph's Realm is up and running and people are headis first into exploring, searching for temples, and mining for emeralds. The not so good news is that we are experience periodic server lag exemplified by critters coming to a dead stop and blocks reappearing. Frankly, compares to some other servers, this is still better, but when you've become accustom to a fairly lag-free environment, its hard to tolerate when it happens.

Some of this is due to Dynmap as it isn't cheap to render map tiles as they get explored; some of it is due to the changes Mojang made in 1.3.x and some plugins not yet being 100% compliant; and, some of it is due to reaching the limits of what a single Minecraft server instance can do. Most of this can be solved by throwing more horsepower at it, which is certainly possible on our upcoming dedicated server; but in the long run I expect that we will be running multiple server instances on our server, with some mechanism to easily "teleport" between worlds. Hey, if FragNet can host 20-30 instances on a dual-quad core, imagine what we can do with a server only half as powerful.

For now, its a wait and see game; monitoring performance statistics; resource usages, etc. We had no problem running three large worlds - Vetronia, The Nether, and Outer Reaches. If push comes to shove before our move, we may consider shutting down the Outer Reaches temporarily in favor of Seraph's Realm. Don't be alarmed, if we do that, we'll provide fair warning to give you time to pull resources out of OR. And, if you happened it missed, the OR will still be there when we spin up on our own server.

At this point we're locked into our current configuration and there are not going to be any major changes other than the periodic updates of plugins. From here forward, I am going to be extremely busy planning and preparing for the installation and migration to our dedicated server.

I have temporarily disabled DynMap because it is preventing chunks from being properly saved. There is an update available that will be installed later today.
