I have been breaking my lrge claim down into several areas of different themes. Modern city for one... ancient city for another... farms somewhere else, Wild West, etc
A want to find out if an area theme and/or things on it, would be ok before i ponder it too much.
I would like one area to be "Future Theatrum." In this i would want to incorporate some things that would be future technology, and sci-fi ideas. For example, a UFO type ship, and other flying-looking things would be appropriate with this theme.
So, as i understand rules of floating builds...it is because things that defy gravity laws look just plain wrong 99% of the time.
However, in this instance, floating/flying would seem legit.
It should also be noted that probably 90% of this area build would be standard ground-level. The flying/future items would be mostly for detail and accents to help the theme.

Flying for the sake of flying doesn't "fly" on VC, if you get my meaning. We've had numerous requests for flying structures, and all were "because it'd be cool."
Ships are one thing. If you're doing a sci-fi build and want some UFOs, that will likely be fine. We still need to see them and approve them, as with all floating structures.
But builds are another thing entirely. Our process has been that if it overcomes the "rational nexus" for being in the air, meaning that it SHOULD be in the air, then it would be approved. No one has ever accomplished that yet.
Most have wanted to do some sort of "floating castle," but haven't wanted to put the time into doing a proper island underneath. So the few blocks of dirt and stone are just a justification for a "cool flying castle." When what we'd be looking for is a substantial island first and then a castle happens to be built on it....so it is as if the castle is understandable to be in the air because the island is. Does that make sense?
For a sci-fi build, the considerations are different. Approval is no less easy....we're not going to bend the Build Rules just because you're using iron blocks instead of stone bricks. So the build needs to justify it being in the air. This means adequate propulsion/suspension mechanisms like jets or turbines.
Basically, it comes down to that 99.9% of flying builds are utter bunk. Floating boxes and 1-wide paths made because players are lazy. If we're going to approve something for the very visible sky, we need to see that what will be built is going to be of a higher quality than what we'd normally see.
Tirade aside, sorry, as with everything, we'll need to see what you want to be flying built in Creative first for approval. Good luck!
