Hi! I was sent here my theMackFather to ask if this is a feature I should be using or not. As I have /god I can go under lava, right? Now with Optifine installed, I can see ores under the lava *If i am in the lava - Not if I am above*. I am wondering if this is a feature I should or should not be using as I think it gives me a little bit of an edge to find ore. I admit to using it a few times before asking this question.

Thanks,

Echo.

At first glance, I'm sure this would be seen as a form of xray/cheating by those who don't have access to god mode. BUT, and this is a very important 'but', this behavior can be mimicked by those who don't have god mode by taking a potion of fire resistance before jumping in lava with "fog" turned off (I don't know if this feature is available outside optifine or not tbh, but I can tell you you just have fog turned off - which I do too because you see better underwater that way too, lol). Granted, you have to use the potion beforehand and it lasts for just 6 minutes max before you have to re-up the effect... but ultimately, this behavior can be mimicked.

When looking at something that might be considered a form of cheating, I think the most important aspect to look at is whether the behavior can be mimicked by those who don't have the advantage. In this case, it can - it just requires a 'trigger' and lasts for 6 minutes a pop. So in this specific case, I personally wouldn't view this as a form of cheating... ...but then again, i'm not staff either, lol. Just responding as an independent member of the community and non-god-mode user, so take my opinion as just that. Kiss

(I'm actually curious to see how those in charge view this behavior/method/whatever-you'd-call-this myself, lol)

I totally agree.

I use these settings to keep my computer running. Staff are aware of it, and take it into account when discerning if a player is using xRay or not.

Happy spelunking!
