Hi All,
So I've been having a general issue with Minecraft over the past so many months - it's not a specific issue with VC server, but with the game in general and is making it impossible for me to play the game at all. I wanted to describe it here and maybe tap into the hive mind a bit, see if anyone else has run into anything like this... at this point, I'm completely stumped myself.
Basically, what's happening is I'll log into an online or offline world. After about a minute of play maybe, the game locks up tight (no errors, just completely freezes at random no matter what I'm doing in-game at the time) and I have to End Task on it to get out of it- there is no way to recover from the hard freeze. It's only happening with this game, my computer isn't locking up with it and neither are any other games I play, just this game hard freezes). Because I'm ending task on it, I'm not getting any solid error log I can use to troubleshoot.
Fixes I've already tried:
Updating videocard drivers (without installing the extra fluff with it, just the driver itself)
Clean installing Java (using JavaRA beforehand to insure all parts of Java uninstalled before reinstall), making sure version is correct (64 bit for my system) and allocating extra memory for its usage
Clean installing Minecraft (deleting the entire .minecraft directory beforehand to insure clean install)
None of the fixes have worked and I'm stumped on what to try next (short of getting a new PC). I've done I-don't-know-how-many Google searches on this and am coming up absolutely blank at this point. I don't know if it's a conflict with Java or my videocard and this problem did not start until well after the release of Minecraft 1.7.
Has anyone else run into any problems like this even remotely similar or am I completely alone? I'll take any troubleshooting suggestions anyone has at this point!

I've [redacted] personally identifiable information, please excuse there. At the point where it says "Game ended with bad state", that part and below are directly after I had Ended Task on the program when it froze. When I Ended Task, this is the error message it gave me:

Additional Hang Signature 7: 544fe93f2f54ed619d2d4ad93cd2ec78
I have an Nvidia videocard. Under 3d Settings, I have threaded optimization turned off, and Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration set to single display performance mode. I don't know of any other settings that might affect performance.
Again, if any of you can see anything anywhere I may have missed that might fix this so I can actually play this game again, I'm all ears and would be forever grateful if it works!

The last time MC was crashing on me, it was due to MCPatcher. Are you running any plugins, or is this problem with straight and simple Minecraft? It turns out I needed to switch to Optifine, but try first without anything else installed and see if that helps it.
It doesn't sound like any normal Minecraft issue like a Java memory leak....hard crashes are usually when things interact poorly. Does the freeze happen while you're just standing still in the game? If not, and you have to be doing something (moving around, loading chucks, etc.), then it's probably one of those interactions. Try:
1) Go offline. Sometimes the transmission itself can cause problems.
2) Try disabling other programs temporarily, like anit-virus or any sort of "bling" program like desktop widgets
3) Run Disk Defragmenter and Error-Checking, to check and clean up any issues with your Hard Drive.
I'm not an expert, bit those should be able to get you started. Good luck.

Hmm...
Well, right now I'm running MC with no plugins or mods, not even optifine - just pure vanilla MC.
I've had it freeze while just standing around doing nothing. With the error report above, I started the game and logged into VC. As you can see, I was in there long enough for some other players to say hi. Stood there for about 30 seconds or so, then game freeze. Didn't access any chests or move or anything... just logged in and stood there. Same thing happens in single player worlds as well (though they usually stay up a little longer - for like one or two minutes before freezing same as online), so it's not specific to any given game mode.
Disk Defragmenter shows only about 3% fragmentation. Have no widgets active. I've not tried disabling anti-virus yet (have Microsoft Security Essentials)... I'll try disabling that, test again, and let you know how it goes...

Wow, yeah, that's a deep problem then. Run the Error-Checking (same spot as the Defragmenter) to see if there are any bad sectors on your hard drive. But right now I'd put money on some other program running that interfere's with the function.

So i did some extensive testing last night. Checked for disk errors beforehand (with surface scan, no errors found) and ran a full virus scan as well (none found). I tried everything i could think of.
Specifically allowed MC through the firewall (no effect)
Disabled anti-virus (no effect)
Tweaked every display related option in the game (no effect)
Turned off every extra function provided by the videocard (anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, etc - no effect)
Brought up the java processes in task manager and forced them to run on single processor instead of both (i've heard that dual processing can sometimes cause problems with MC - no effect)
Unloaded processing from the GPU and had it use the CPU instead (no effect)
I did notice that i was wrong before about when it freezes though. I was logging into the server fine, looking around with the mouse fine, bringing up chat screen and chatting fine. WASD movement though.. this caused the game to freeze... so maybe issues with chunk loading or something? I'm stone-walled.
At this point, i don't know what's causing this or how to fix it. I can't play the game anymore, which is a real shame because it's been my favorite game for longer than most have held my attention for. I'll be logging into the server at least once a month to keep from losing my stats, but until i get this problem figured out or get another pc, i'm effectively inactive at this point.
I'll post again if anything changes (or if anyone can shed any light on this at all, feel free to post as well).

You can also get to the logs directly from Minecraft Launcher by clicking on the Development Console tab at the top of the screen. To see all the gory details while playing the game, edit your profile and check off Launcher Visibility and set it to Keep the launcher open.
What concerns me are the "Unable to play unknown soundEvent: minecraft:none" warnings. You might want to try updating your sound card drivers. Couple with the fact that it want to delete the natives library (i.e. the code that actually speaks to the OS) leads me to believe it still is a driver issue.
When you mentioned that you are running without plugins can I assume you did a virgin install (i.e. backed up and deleted the .minecraft folder) as opposed to just installing? Also, can I assume you are using Minecraft's Launcher, rather than MCPatcher or MagicLauncher?

You know what, i never thought about sound possibly being an issue... i actually overlooked the missing sound error because it seemed minor, but i can see there maybe being possible conflicts with the sound driver. Can't hurt to check into it in any case! Good catch there - i will definitely check my sound drivers next (i've no idea when i last updated those)...
Game install is fresh also btw. Have my .minecraft folder backed up but i'm running clean right now using the latest exe downloaded directly from minecraft.net (no mcpatcher or magic launcher).
i'll check into the sound thing tonight (thanks)!...

So I reinstalled the sound drivers and clean reinstalled MC yet again too (for good measure), fired it up and logged into VC... so far, NO FREEZE. Odd that sound drivers could cause the game to crash like that but it's looking like that was somehow or other the cause... driver conflicts or something...
In any case, time to re-install my mods and get back to playing (and hoping that the issue's finally gone for good). Thanks for the heads-up on the sound error, frelling (and thanks in general for all your help/input, both)!
