Hi all,

My comp managed to die on me over the weekend. Thought it was the hard drive (which would have been fixable, as i have spares), but after reinstalling windows, I'm now getting BSOD before it can finish the install and no matter the hard drive i use, so it has to be either the memory or motherboard (can't be a bad image burn as I'm using a retail copy of windows). In any case, at this point I'd rather build a new rig than throw more money into the ancient relic i have.

What this really means is that it's upgrade time. I'll be away for awhile until I can get a parts list together, get everything ordered and get the new system online. Might be a month or two, or longer, not sure really (gonna be putting in as much overtime as possible to try and budget in better parts more quickly), but hopefully I can get it all done and get back on the server before mcmmo nukes my stats to the Nether.

Just wanted to give the server powers-that-be a heads-up on it now...

Good luck and hurry back!  As frelling noted in the update thread, big things will be happening on or around 6/22 for our 3-year anniversary!  We'd love to have you there!

So long as you are a donator, you don't have to worry about your builds.  We don't remove any builds from donators, even if they've been off for more than a month.  However the player databases are cleaned up periodically, and I believe that starts at two months of inactivity.....I don't know if donors are protected from that wipe.  Your best bet is to find a way to log in, even if it's just for a few seconds, once a month to refresh your activity status.  It's not the best way to do things, but it will protect against any automatic wiping.

Thanks for letting us know.

I've been donator for what feels like forever, mostly for the benefit of what you describe - not losing residences due to unexpected long absences, etc. Got my parts list complete and started ordering. List below:

Probably overkill on some things, I'm trying to future proof in some areas. I can expand the RAM from 8GB to 16GB later if I need. Processor is overclocker ready (would've picked an i7 but I have no need of hyperthreading, which is the only real advantage of it), so I can speed it up if I ever need to. Videocard is factory overclocked, has 4GB vid RAM, and the motherboard has support for 2 of them (SLI supported) if I decide to add a 2nd one later on. Power supply is a little overkill (850W), but again, it gives me room to grow if I decide to add other components or upgrade anything later (and it's gold certified - yay efficiency).

Oh, and I'm ordering it all through Amazon mostly only because if they fill the order and I have to RMA a defective part at any point, I can work through them more easily instead of jumping through hoops trying to get hold of the manufacturer - to me that's worth not getting the absolute best price for everything I'm ordering.

I'm hoping this rig will last for years to come with minor need to upgrade (we'll see). Anyone have any thoughts/input on the parts?
