Any mods that don't give you a gameplay advantage are allowed to be used on VeteranCraft. These include mods such as Rei's Minimap (NOT Xan's), InvTweaks, and similar mods that offer benefits that are geared toward your quality of life on Minecraft without impeding on anybody else's. If you find a mod you like and wonder if you can use it, don't hesitate to ask any moderator in game or on the forums.

One mod that makes my life easier is CraftGuide. It gives you an in-game reminder of what the recipes for things are, so you don't have to hop out and hit the wiki.
I'm running version 1.6.8.1 with MC 1.7.10, and it works fine.

Personally, i run:
Forge - love this one, awesome modloader.. install it and then just drag n drop all other zipped mods into the mods folder and forge does the rest to install them for you.
Optifine - obvious reasons
Rei's Minimap - as terrorisly stated, this one is fine to use, and having the deathpoints activated helps immeasurably when i mess up and die somewhere and have to do a corpse run, lol.
Too Many Items - i keep it installed for offline worlds, but believe it or not, you can leave this mod installed while online without problems too - the server automatically disables the functions you're not allowed to use online, so it doesn't get in the way of anything.
I used to have Better Sprinting installed too (previously approved for use), but i haven't seen a version updated to 1.7.9 or 1.7.10 yet, so i've been making do without the nice sprint and stealth toggles for now...

Thanks guys, and while I know how to install mods, I can't seem to find 1.7.9 versions of anything but Optifine. Also, I was wondering if I can use ArmorStatusHUD (http://www.minecraftforum.net/.....rectionhud). (Sorry about the long link, I am relatively new to forums and don't know how to do links proper.)

@Sonic... As for 1.7.9, don't worry there. Update your client to 1.7.10 instead (the server supports it, even though the server itself is running 1.7.9).
Then go here and download the recommended 1.7.10 version (10.13.0.1180) of Forge:
http://files.minecraftforge.net/
Install Forge.
Then download the following zip files and drop them in your mods folder (just make sure you download the Forge compatible versions, Forge will unpack them when you run MC):
Optifine: https://optifine.net/downloads
Rei's Minimap: http://3minecraft.com/reis-minimap-mod/
Then download whatever other mods you want (that are allowed on the server, of course!) and put the zip files in the mods folder with these ones (again, Forge takes care of everything, so you don't have to actually install anything else but that). You should be fine after that.

A damage indicator sounds like it only clarifies information already provided in the game. Without any more information to clarify, I would assume it's allowed.
As PvP is one of the few places players are pit directly against one another, anything that gives a player an advantage in PvP would be disallowed. Client modifications such as player radar, any sort of auto-attack, or a bow trajectory display would be in clear violation.

@summertree
On quick search, maybe something like Tabbychat might work?
http://www.minecraftforum.net/.....erhaul-new
The description says it's able to play sounds as well as apply different filters and such for keeping larger chatrooms organized. It's also supposed to be Forge compatible too (if you run Forge anyway -- i do). EDIT: On further inspection, it looks like the mod's not just Forge compatible, it's actually Forge-required -- you'll need to install Forge to use it. Luckily enough though, i provided a link to Forge in a previous post (and to be honest, i'd say Forge is really worth the install anyway, lol).
I don't see anything that would yield player advantage or otherwise cause it to be banned from server... but you can/should check with staff, of course, just to be sure...

Has anyone heard of a mod that will play an audible sound when you get a direct tell? They're easy to miss sometimes, when conversation is flying.
Interesting that you brought that up. We are already looking into adding audio alerts to JCChat to do exactly that

I was wondering if somebody could help me with Forge.
I have it installed now, along with OptiFine, and have been looking for a mod that has a mini map and show the time of day (a clock or just night and day)
Ive been searching and come up with 2 Rei's you mention above and Zan's (I think is otherwise known as Voxelmaps)
Is VoxelMaps ok to use on VC, and if so....how do I install it ? lol
I have it in the Mods folder along with texture packs, but it doesn't seem to do anything :/
Thanks for any help

i mentioned further up in the thread, if you're looking for a minimap mod that's allowed on the server, you can use Rei's Minimap.. it's never broken any rules on the server and i've been using it forever myself without issues. You can download 1.7.10 version of Forge (recommended is 10.13.2.1230) and then run Rei's along side Optifine too (the server itself runs on 1.7.9 currently but your local client can run 1.7.10 and log in without problems).
