Error: java.io.IOException: Server returned HTTP response code: 503 for URL: http://session.minecraft.net/g.....?user=your IGN here]&sessionId=[session ID here]&serverId=[server ID here]

I get this when I attempt to connect to any Minecraft server. I believe it's an issue with their authentication servers. I've been told an error 503 is when the server is unavailable due to an overload or is running in maintenance mode.

Hopefully this will be resolved as soon as possible - just posting this to let anyone else with the same error know they're not alone.

Right now the authorization servers have been taken offline and will be down until further notice. The Mojangstas are working hard to make sure we get everything back to perfect working order.

It had, then later they found out admins on servers would also get fakes. There's some info on the link the real notch tweeted.

(A recent exploit was discovered in the Minecraft authorization servers, which allowed players to log in to SMP servers as any account they wished. Mojang has temporarily taken down the login servers while they work to eliminate this exploit. It is not expected to take long.)
