I also cannot log in. When ever I try to log in I get the following message:

 

Failed to login: java.oi.IOException: Sever returned HTTP response code: 503 For URL: (not typing the rest because it will take forever)

 

I am wondering if this is on my end, the servers end, or Minecraft itself, because the Minecraft site has been down due to so much traffic....

503 errors usually mean that the authentication servers are down. I don't remember the site that checks it, but I'm getting the same error and someone is logged into the server; I'm betting it's a Mojang issue. Just be patient.

The authentication servers seem to be alright: http://help.mojang.com/  If you get an error, check the Minecraft Multiplayer Sessions light there.

I got an error yesterday, but when I tried again, it seemed to be fine.  It might just have the hiccups instead of a full-blown illness.  If you still get 503's and the light is green, just keep trying.
