I believe it's a default setting for the new software. It's not unheard of for forums to not allow editing once someone has replied. There are argumentative reasons, certainly. While editing the last post to allow for corrections is fine, once someone has replied to a post it makes sense that it can't be edited afterwards.
The main problem lies in original posts, of course. Especially if you're wanting to edit the post with new info/pics/etc. But once the lore wiki is set up again, the need for forum posts to store info will become mostly irrelevant.

The forums are set that way intentionally. You can edit your post until there is a reply. After that it is set in stone (i.e. not going back an altering history information for whatever reason).
