Ok, I went to make my claim in Arda. I dropped the chest, no problems. Right clicked on the corner with a gold shovel, no problem. Went to right click on the other corner i wanted and it said i needed X amount of blocks, i could only get another 1275 or something like that. Ok, my questions are these:

1) In the Arda FAQ's, section 4.5 it says blocks can be purchased for 3 shillings per block. How do i do that so i can get the size I want? I have the moola, but i can't figure out how to do it and i didn't want to try typing in all kinds of / commands until i got it right or screwed it up bad.

2) After watching the video and reading the FAQ's, are we charged for vertical blocks like residence, or is it just a 1 time fee for this corner to that corner and everything on up is included?

The command is /buyclaimblocks [amount]

It claims everything from corner to corner from sky limit to bedrock. The vertical blocks are not counted as separate.

Edit: According to the ingame command, the price is 7 shillings a block and not 3, so keep that in mind.

Keep in mind you get 100 blocks per hour of active play, so you could play more first too, save you the shillings.

when you first make the claim it goes from the Y you have just claimed to the sky, you got to dig down to bedrock if you also want to protect underground

This is important, and always worth repeating/clarifying.

Assuming you are concentrating fully on claim expansion, then you can look at claim blocks as money.  For active play, that equates to getting 700 shillings per hour.

For non-sponsors wanting to expand their claims, just playing the game and accruing naturally is MANY more times effective than using shillings from voting.  And you'd have to be one heck of an entrepreneur to make more shillings than that on a regular basis.

For sponsors, accruing naturally is still an extremely effective way of getting blocks, freeing up shillings to pump into the server economy.

Minimum hours of active play per month to surpass how many blocks you could buy with sponsor salaries:

Knights: 8.5 hours ( average 28 minutes per day) - Really easy.

Bishops: 21.4 hours (average 1 hour, 11 minutes per day) - Do-able.

Ambassadors: 55.7 hours (average 3 hours, 6 minutes per day) - Tough.

Viceroys: 142.9 hours ( average 7 hours, 56 minutes per day) - You have no life.

Hehe, nice comparison against sponsorship levels.
