Hi!

I'm back with some new ideas to get on with, as the reason for my absense is that I just got bored of playing VeteranCraft (Due to myself, quite frankly, having too much resources, I slowly drifted out).

However, I am back with some projects in mind, and of course, after over a year of playing on VeteranCraft, I have the materials to do them! But, my reasons for writing this thread is to ask if I am allowed to build such things.

  • Above Nether gold farm. It's like a regular mob spawner, but above the nether, (you can get on top of the nether by throwing many enderpearls into the bedrock! (You can also make a hole through bedrock:http://tinyurl.com/l8wtklv)) and for Zombie Pigmen!
  • Iron foundries. Gigantic iron farms, capable of over 1000 iron per hour! (Link: http://tinyurl.com/omzdr7l)

Thanks!

A small excerpt from the Rules page:

  • Dynamic content (e.g. mobs, animals, harvesting, portals, redstone circuitry, etc.) use server resources. Excessive use of such may cause lag and use memory better served elsewhere. You are expected to keep such “systems”/”machinery” to a reasonable size so as not to affect your fellow players. We do not allow nether portal gold farms.

I've seen farms, and residences above the bedrock in the past.  Not 100% on the rule status on those, as far as I can tell, if it's got a /res attached to it, it's fair play.

Because the server isn't updated yet, that method of breaking the bedrock won't work.  But in future state, I'm sure there will be a new rule in place to prohibit the breaking of bedrock blocks.  They are too destructive to griefers.  Once placed, they cannot be removed without use of mods / cheats.  Because the use of a machine as such, it does leave 1% entities behind, which would provide said blocks to anyone who builds it.

There are 3 steps one must take to profit in today's economy: 1.) Learn from lessons taught by others 2.) Don't give away everything you know.

If I recall correctly, above-bedrock nether pigmen farms, that do not use portals and have an insta-kill feature should be all within the rules. Of course, I am not a mod, so I cannot confirm this at 100%.

Also, to both Echo and TSWG, the bedrock breaking trick is, in a way, completely pointless. One could use the ender pearl trick/compass to get above, and then place a portal for easy access. This is without considering /res tp and /home.

However, I too think the bedrock breaking glitch should be outlawed if the people who break said bedrock do get it in their inventory.

Just always remember to keep your entity cap in one location at <200. Also, as stated by the rules, pistons and/or machinery (redstone clocks, etc) can create a lot of lag, so remember to have an off switch and that only the pistons that have to activate activate.

Welcome back, Echo!

Yes, your method of pigmen farming is allowed.  The illegal method is when large numbers of portals are used, leading to uncontrollable numbers of pigmen entities and portal lag.

If you can get above the Nether, then go for it.  If Mojang isn't going to fill the top half of the Nether, then that's their problem.  It's still buildable area.

As for bedrock, the intentional use of any MC glitch on VC is illegal.  I am sure that glitch will soon be patched by Mojang.  As bedrock is not minable or obtainable on VC, the presence of it in anyone's inventory or use in builds would result in a ban.  It's best to just leave it alone. :)

We don't disallow farming or grinders of any sort (except the pigmen portals, as the nature of it violates the Dynamic Content rule TSWG posted).  However, farming and grinders are under higher levels of scrutiny, for anti-afk measures, non-insta-kill gathering, active redstone, etc.

I am always clear with my opinion on farming and grinders:  While we allow it, I personally consider it to be exploiting the mechanics of the game engine.  While it can be argued whether that is a good thing or bad, I see it as a counter to the intent of the designed gameplay.  So build them if you wish, but as with all such builds, they'll be watched. Cool

In regards to the iron farm: not allowed. TWSG already mentioned our rule. Likewise, using portals as pseudo chunk loaders is not allowed. Non-portal pigmen farms or any auto-harvest farm are similarly subject to the rule mentioned above. Breaking bedrock is a glitch and exploitation of such is not allowed.

Hi,

I think we have a mis-understanding here, when you grow the tree downwards, simply punching a hole through the bedrock, also, you do not get the bedrock block item.

I didn't expect my statements to turn into a discussion. Bedrock is supposed to be unbreakable by normal means. Whether a bedrock item is received or not is moot. While I understand that your purpose for doing so is mostly harmless, it could be used for other nefarious reasons (e.g. a bottomless pit letting players fall into the void). Furthermore, this next update will prevent players from teleporting atop the nether ceiling anyways.

Good Afternoon,

I have a question regarding the statement

frelling said

Does it mean that all iron farms are no longer allowed, or that simply the one presented earlier in the thread is not allowed? (because the aforementioned design uses portals to keep the chunk loaded)  My interest in this is because I've experimented with several iron farm designs, as I'm sure others have, and have a fairly efficient one. ( all of my designs require a player present to work, and meet the villager rule) I just wanted to ask before I spent tens of hours dismantling an order of magnitude greater worth of work.

Respectfully,

si1entSASQUATCH

p.s. If all iron farms are now deemed illegal, would I be able to put a removal request in for one of my own structures?

Any farms that exploit stacking village zones are not allowed. I will gladly help you remove the one you created.
