I know, I'm a slew of suggestions lately.

So, I was wondering if it might be a good idea to disable the chat while people are in jail. I mean, I don't have to hear complaints from the nearby county detention center from inmates that don't want to be in there. The jail does keep them from playing, but since 95% of contact between players is chat anyways, that aspect of the game remaining intact is akin to letting IRL inmates keep their cell phones (which they don't).
I don't know, I just thought I'd mention it and see what people thought. Personally, "jail time" should be "quiet time," for a player to reflect and perhaps re-read the Rules.

I think it should be quiet time too, however, I feel that if they are going to be a worthwhile member of VC going into the future then they need to be able to keep their own mouth shut (or fingers still, as it were) and not require the intervention of a mod to do so. If they cant follow the instructions/rules of being in jail on their own, then they can be escalated up the punishment process to a temp ban or full ban depending on the severity of their continued infractions.
Funny you should mention the chat issue Light. We've actually discussed the issues with jail in staff forums, and are considering a more custom approach to how jail works in the future. Until we get to that point, I'll save the details but yeah we've thought about it.

Meat:
Subzone the jail cells and add the mute flag. e.g. /resadmin set mute true. That will prevent players from chatting. That features being around for a while, but I guess we never really had a need until now.

Are you serious? Well that surely serves to fill the purpose for the time being. As soon as I get a chance to login I'll do that.

Yep, that was built into JCChat from the start, mainly as a experiment of being able to use customized Residence flags. At that time there wasn't a compelling need to use it; frankly, I forgot about it myself until this thread brought it up.

that no-chat command may become useful in some of our community events when trying to organize 15-20 people who all think it's a great idea to talk at the same time and confuse the organizers, lmao.
But on a more serious note, I like the jail system, and having no talking in place will definitely make things easier to manage!

Meat i went ahead and subzoned each jail cell ( that we currently use ) and added the mute command. Hope this was ok.
Edit - Tested and confirmed muted.

Is there at least a message that says " now you are in jail. Durring your stay , you will be muted " ? That would kind of be a confusing thing for the players that are jailed but just want to ask what for.

prison/jail - a place in which people are physically confined and usually deprived of a range of personal freedoms... That definition says it all; no need to further explain restrictions. Furthermore, each cell has signs explaining the reason for their incarceration. If players can't figure out why they are imprisoned then an increased sentence might be in order to give them sufficient time to reflect.
