So, here's an idea for a plugin for VeteranCraft that I thought about when replying to isly in the Planning thread:
There are multiple threads around now talking about the wiki and the site and how to increase exposure. I and many other vets are constantly providing links to new people. What if there were in-game signs set up to do just that?
Useful Examples:
- Signs posted around cities which take the player to wiki pages regarding that city.
- Signs posted at the spawn for the Rules, DynMap, etc.
- Signs in the Welcome Center for the guides to better explain the intricacies of Residence, iConomy, and McMMO
- Signs for Pherian's maps, even ones with fancy "You Are Here" marks.
The biggest downside to this plugin right now is that it doesn't automatically open the webpage, but pastes the link into the chat, which then needs to be clicked on. Still it's a permanent way to sync up a location or event with our websites.
Another benefit/drawback, is that the link signs are only placeable by staff, so they'll be non-spamable....but also a bit of a pain with people requesting them.
Anyways, I hope this is considered! Thanks!

Yeah I definitely think this thing has a use. Even if all the Admins do is put a sign up with a link to the website and/or dynamic map in the visitor's center so that people will actually go to them.
Even better, have them trapped in the spawn hall until they click on the linked sign to view the map/website. Then the door opens and they can exit.

I really like this idea!
A planned feature in the upcoming 1.3 release is the Book and Quill - This will allow multiple pages of text, and I am wondering if URLs in the books would be clickable.
I haven't played with the Book and Quill in beta, so I'm not sure if a book can be displayed read-only or not. I think this will be a really useful feature for cities, and the embassy buildings.
It might accomplish what you are proposing, as long as the book can be "mounted" or displayed, where people can't take it or modify it. Maybe a new batch of plugins will spring up that will do something like this with the book and quill?
I'll let Frelling make an official "statement" to the SignLink plugin. Here's my take:
The SignLink plugin Light linked to is a pretty unofficial plugin - meaning, the developer does not have a plugin page setup for it. He just attached the JAR to a forum page. I did search the bukkit plugins, and there already is an "official" SignLink plugin - but this plugin doesn't do the same thing.
I'm at work right now and they block dropbox, so I'm unable to open the JAR file attached to the page Light linked to, so I'm not sure if it has the source code available.
My guess is that this is not a "strong" enough plugin, but again, that is Frelling's call.
My hope is that the Book and Quill will be able to accomplish this - maybe I can try to get a snapshot of 1.3 and check it out before it is released...

Bringing this thread back to life. A really close friend of mine has a VERY popular server. I jumped on it when our server was in the reboot process. They have linked sign and immediately thought of LWK. I eventually got in contact with my friend. The plug-in they use is found here: http://dev.bukkit.org/server-m.....ksonsigns/
This may help in a variety of ways.
Essentially how it works is you right click the sign, which will then add the link in the chat box for the user to click on.

Slap! Apparently you missed the discussion in the Final Logistics staff thread for New Spawn. Here let me refresh your memory.
We've also looked at hyperlink signs. Some solutions look promising, but chances are that we will roll our own. Given that documentation rework is still an open action item, hyperlink signs have been put on back burner for now.
