Hello! I have a couple of questions/opinions/suggestions regarding the sale of spawn eggs to players. I've noticed that Cobwebs are for sale in some shops, despite being unavailable in Vanilla. So this got me thinking- why not spawn eggs?

The sale of spawn eggs for the basic mobs (cows, sheep, pigs, and chickens) would be quite useful to players, such as me, who are either A) on an island or B) unable to feasibly acquire passive mobs for farming due to wilderness slaughtering and the like. It's a fairly simple idea, and I don't really see any adverse effects that could come from it. However, I'd recommend making the eggs expensive.

Thank you for reading.

Cobwebs are in the game via two sources:

1) Prior to donors having access to /spa, they had access to worldedit's // command, which allowed for mining of cobwebs.  This was changed quite some time ago. (probably over 6 or 8 months, but they could still be hanging around)

2) 750+ excavation, cobwebs are a treasure drop that becomes attainable. (probably more common these days)

This being said, I agree that mob eggs would be an interesting thing to have in game, for the reasons you listed, and also for the simple reason of having mobs from new patches in the old world, but I am not sure of the best way to make them attainable and still maintain the legit nature of the server.

Ah, I didn't know about those sources.

Re: How to make them attainable- I agree, I'm not entirely sure how we could do that. I came across a plugin that could implement them in a less "buy this from the bank" sort of way. The plugin is certainly less than ideal though, and very far from a vanilla feel. I'm not sure if the plugin even fits the requirements for consideration. Perhaps I can think of some method other than a plugin.

If you're looking to get some passive mobs on your island, there are always a few players out there willing to lure them over for a few hundred shillings. There should still be plenty of wild animals in the northern portion of the map, however I know that can be frustrating when you live on a southern island. We had to pay a little to get passive mobs in our Ark but it was well worth it.

So far as I'm aware, all of the cobwebs in-game come from the McMMO excavation perk. I have a small supply myself for those looking.

Doesn't silk touch harvest them? At least with /spa?

While we make some exceptions for other plugins that drop "unobtainable items," it should not be construed as the norm.

Well said, everyone. Your points are very good, and have led me to retract my suggestion.

To anyone curious, last night I managed the 2500 block swim with 2 cows in tow.

I shall make it my duty to slaughter said cows.

Edit: Nvm, the servers down, or I'm preemptively banned. :)
