Fishers and especially mob shakers surely know this: If you cast the line of your fishing rod too quickly, i.e. too often in a short amount of time, you get the following message:

"Spam fishing is not allowed! Action ignored."

When this was introduced to the server, it was a useful tool to prevent afk-fishing. However, in 1.7 the fishing algorithm has changed. According to minecraft wiki, the chance of catching a fish is not longer 1/500 per tick, but the water particles of the fish appear between 100 and 900 ticks after the bobber touched the water. This makes any "hack-free" version of afk-fishing or spam-fishing unfunctional, as it based on the small chance of catching a fish immediately after the bobber touched the water surface. Thus, blocking 'spam-fishing' is not longer necessary.

On the other hand, it can be even annoying in some situations, in particular when shaking mobs with a fishing rod. Then it is like...

Server: "Yes, I see this horde of angry zombie pigmen in front of you, but you can't use your sword (fishing rod) now. You're spam-swording. Action ignored. Die, hacker!"

Therefore, unless I miss any benefit automatic blocking of 'spam-fishing' still has, I plead to deactivate it.

I have to say, I have never understood the "spam fishing" message.  When I arrived it was already in place.

The spam-fishing prevention was put in place because of all the folks who were doing afk-fishing.  In essence, using a weight to keep the mouse button pressed and reap in the the fish and treasure, without paying any attention to Minecraft.

I haven't fished since we updated to 1.7, but if the algorithm has changed to the point where spam-fishing doesn't work anyways, then that might change things.

However, as with all things, I'm sure frelling will dive into it and see what needs to be done.  Thanks for the suggestion, Pauli.

I don't disagree with this suggestion. The anti spam feature was a fantastic fix for something that is no longer an issue.

I'll have to dig into the config file, but if I was smart I have a means of disabling it. Still busier than an armless feather stuffer in a wind storm but hopefully it is something that I can change quickly.
