Hey everyone, Spent here with a new Plugin idea. I was thing about the voting for the server and how newer people seem to strugle with it at first and how some people don't even bother with it because of laziness. Well, I thought of something that would help with that. Instead of having to go to the websites to vote, what if all you had to do was type /vote while in game and presto you just voted for the day. It would take less time to explain stuff to the newbs and it would help the server by having lazy people (ie. Me) be able to vote much easier. I am looking for a Plugin that has already been made for this, but as of now, I can't find one. So, what will I do about it? I will make the Plugin!

Personally I love the idea of this, but of course this is my own opinion. If you like the idea, just say so and then that will push me to make it faster.

Wouldn't that cause the voting to not come from your own IP but the server's, causing only 1 vote to be possible? Not to mention they use Captchas, which an automated system isn't supposed to be able to get right.

as good as it sounds it would only work with 1 vote page and we have 4 atm so no that wont be happening, and its not hard to go to our home page press Vote and then , well Vote ofc.

This would just make people even more lazy and people needs to visit the homepage more often that what they are doing atm as like reading the forums , reading the rules ofc and so on.

as it sems that even old members of the server tends still not to know the full rule book and thats abit sad so :).

this only shows how little people are cared to even read on the homepage

I agree with Zenzar that a benefit of voting via the website is simply the fact that it brings people to the website. We are starting to get a good chunk of forum active players, but we are a long way from the "majority".

I was looking around and I saw a server that uses a Plugin just like this. It seems to work perfect for them and they are one of the highest ranked servers. Of course the downside like zen and emu said is that more people would not read rules and look at forum, but I rarely ever see anyone that actually looks at the rules unless they are new and are looking at the website (just from the amount of people that get banned).

The server that I mentioned has a large team of Plugin developers so there most likely there isn't a Plugin like that out there. Yeah so the problem with people not looking at the website would be bad so I won't make the Plugin or keep looking after all.

I can't for the life of me imagine how it works. See, these server ranking sites don't just do it for giggles. They earn an income from advertising revenue, that they're able to sell thanks to the high amount of traffic their site recieves. They get traffic from two main groups; those looking to join a server, and those promoting their existing servers (ex. Voting). If it were possible for servers to vote without visiting their site, they would lose a large portion of their traffic, and a large portion of their ad revenue.
I'm not saying such a plugin does not exist, it is possible I'm sure, but I can't help but think these sites would frown on such a thing.

My guess is that the server is paying for the ability to circumvent the capachca.

Edited the server name out of your post, just for your safety. Wink

Even if this works. I can see future problems where a group *cough* *cough* of users who get annoyed with someone who disagrees with them and the group will kick them for this reason. These scenarios always go through my head so maybe I am crazy.

I'm not sure if you read the OP right, Gorlock. It isn't something to vote out players Survival style, it's a mechanism to vote for the server via an ingame command.

Kind of defeats the purpose of mentioning it, since now we have to ask him again for it. Good thing I read this because I was going to rag about leaving out most important detail Laugh

As far as an approach. It is possible to run a batch script that can proxy votes for a user on multiple servers. That is if the server allows it. Plus, the track IP addresses, as said above, that'd be 1 vote unless we had a pool of IP address from which we could pull for each unique player.

@Spent

Guess you have a choice: be lazy and poor; or, work and be wealthy. How hard can it be clicking on 4 menu items and typing a few IGNs and captchas?

In a democratic system both parties expend a lot of effort in trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule. Both succeed and are right.

You should be able to check his edit history on his post to get the server name. I took it out because even just mentioning other server names can be against the rules from what I can remember from a conversation with Meat. However, I could just be remembering wrong (which is why I took it out just in case). Just trying to clarify. I may not be making sense though, hehe. Laugh

Would it be possible to embed the voting process right on the main veterancraft page? It would still bring people to the site and its not nearly as much work instead of going to 4 websites.

Someone please educate me. Do I not see the forest for the trees? Using the View Edit History on the mentioned post, I only get the time stamp of the edit and who did - no display of what was edited.

@Spent

Feel free to mention that server you said had an example of what you asked, without fear of a ban. Laugh

I'd be curious to see how they do it. If you feel uncomfortable mentioning it in a public thread, PM me the server name.

Yes, we only get a record of if and when something was edited. Not the actual edits. Standard forum practice.

I'm not sure if this was what Spent was talking about, but that unmentionable server Laugh vote page uses an embedded form. It would be possible for Meat to create a page with a collection of embedded forms provided they are available. From what I see only Minestatus and Minecraft Servers support them. MCSL requires a logon, and I'm unsure about Server List.

So it is possible to make this, but I would only work with 2 of the websites?
