Well, 1.6.2 is here, and everyone wants their horses. However, as many know, horses will not spawn naturally in older maps, and since we wont have any newly generated chunks in Vetronia, this will make obtaining horses without spawning them.... very difficult, actually impossible. So, in the time since 1.6 was released, and Veterancraft was updated, I looked for solutions that might help combat this problem. As luck has it, I believe I found a solution to that problem. The plugin is called NaturalHorse, and it emulates the spawning of horses as it would be on a newly generated map. So, without further taking up your time, here is the plugin information!

Name: NaturalHorse

Bukkit-Dev Page: http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-p.....ralhorses/

Why I think this plugin would benefit the server: This plugin would help make the 1.6 update much more enjoyable in my opinion. Everyone, as Emulated learned when he logged on after the updated and got spammed by questions, wants horses. I know that the technical staff probably has some plugins in mind, but I like this particular plugin. It is relatively easy to set up and it has the source code, so if the original author doesn't update it at some point, you guys can take it over. I have tested it one a 1.6.2 server, and it makes my 1.2.5 world seem just like a newly generated 1.6 world, which is pretty nice, since nobody wants a world reset. I don't want to burden the techs with more info regarding the update, I just thought this plugin would make it a little more fun with horses in the future if you hadn't already come up with a solution.

Thanks for your time!

Just as a note, this was meant to be a friendly plugin suggestion. I do not doubt the staff's abilities to find plugins. I simply wanted to post this one incase it was overlooked in the thousands of plugins out there.

I'm afraid that this one likely wouldn't work well. It says in the plugin description that the biome must be Plains, but because of the age of the Vetronia map and the biome changes that have accompanied it, the vast majority of the land is technically in an Ocean biome, so the horses would spawn only in very rare, separated areas.

Oh yes, forgot about that..... well, ignore my suggestion.

the lack of horses is no longer a problem.  running the horses around the world is a long, and tedious task.  HOWEVER... it DOES make for a scenic tour of our land to go from where you bought / bred the horse, to where you want it to stay/live.  I kinda like the idea of the plugin, and on the reverse side of the coin, I like the idea that people have to adventure to get them, and travel.

There are 3 steps one must take to profit in today's economy: 1.) Learn from lessons taught by others 2.) Don't give away everything you know.

For the record, as of travelling around last night, i've noted at least a few areas that show up listed as "plains" when i hit F3. I've no idea if this means they actually are or not, but the system is showing that it thinks they are (would any techies be able to confirm and also speculate whether this would be enough?).

The only issue that might come up with using nothing but bred horses is, well, the wiki notes in the breeding section that due to formulas used in breeding, bred horses tend to gravitate toward average stats over time, where as, spawned horses can start with higher stats. If this holds true (if the wiki is correct) and we use nothing but bred horses, we're going to end up with a vast majority of completely "average" horses in the long run.

Not weighing in here for or against the proposed plugin, just offering some general food for thought.

I do believe the Vetronia world contains plains biomes. People have been able to either go AFK in plains biomes for several hours to generate horses or go into plains biomes several days after the 1.6 update has taken effect to find them. Like Trip, not weighing in on the suggestion, just letting you know that we do apparently have plains biomes in the Vetronia world.

This is not really correct. If you breed horses not caring about which ones you pick, yes, you might end up with average stats. But if you pick better horses for your breed, you will get better offspring. AFAIK the new baby horse gets 1/3 of it's stats from each of the parents, and 1/3 is random. So if you're after a horse that has higher stats, it will be much harder to find it in the wild, instead of selectively breeding the horses that have the stats you're after.

This thread has morphed in to a general discussion about horses and has been closed. If anyone wants to continue this, please do so under a more suitable forum other the Suggestion Box.
