I can hear you all squealing in your seats, in anguish because of the mention of the word modded. However, I, the eternal beast of entropy, feed off these emotions, and let me say, you people are tasty.

However, please hear my story:

Minecraft is, in my opinion, a seasonal game. There are moments where you feel like playing Vanilla Minecraft, due to, for example, an update, or something very interesting happening on the server (Arda, for example). But after a while, activity starts dying down for lack of newer content. Obviously, this doesn't apply to everyone. My prophetic eyes see, as I am writing this, the look of certain players faces as they read this, frowning in disapproval. I blame this because of the lack of content in traditional (Vanilla) Minecraft. Which is why I would like to suggest the idea of getting a small modded server.

To begin, a popular argument against a modded server would be that it would split the community in half. However, I, have had a fantabulous idea: If we could get some sort of plugin that would permit chat between both servers, we wouldn't have to separate the community. People who feel like playing modded could just go on the modded server, yet still be in the same awesome community of VC.

The main issues are:

  • The server itself. I know we had the 1.8 server, but I'm pretty sure that was also the test server, and since we kind of need the test server to test things for the main server, it's out of reach.
  • Finding a mod pack that pleases everyone. Which happens to be really hard, since everyone has different tastes.

I would also like to point out that this is just a suggestion.

Please comment on your own opinions on this. I'd like to see what you guys think of it.

I would play even more if we had a FTB server. Just saying.

That's the beauty of a FTB server, it tries to have something for everyone.  Okamat and I have logged far to many hours into FTB :) .

I personally found the Direwolf20 pack to have a little bit of everything for everyone. It's not really fun alone though.

Try the 3rd Party Pack Crash Landing, it's wonderful.

I have watched people on youtube play it, and play a little bit of it. I like the fact that you actually have to work hard to make the different machines (With Pneumaticraft) instead of just craft them on the fly.

Technic was LEGO. :P

As for a modded server, I wouldn't mind it, but it's not why I play Minecraft.  Nor VeteranCraft.  I have so much to do in Arda as it is that further mods don't hold much appeal to me.

However, I would like to see a lot more players on VC, so I'm not opposed to something happening.  My only request is to someway, somehow, find a way to link the chats between servers.  I don't really see the point of VC doing a thing like this otherwise, as opposed to all meeting up on an existing server.

That is really what I meant, to like the chat servers. Otherwise it will just split the community even more. If we can't get that working I really don't want a modded server coming into play.

To resume this topic, the Youtuber Ethoslab recently released a mod pack following a series on his part on his channel. Not that I want to play this because I am a big fan of him (I must admit, I like his videos) but because the mod variety is pretty nice. Here's a list:

Of course some mods would have to be edited because they are so easily exploited. (Notably Custom NPCs. As cool and awesome as the mod is, and how much I'd like to be able to use it, it is so easily exploitable that it would just break any idea of balance on the server)

I think Modsauce would do well as a package.

i'm sort of retired at the moment, only checking by now and then. If we could get a (chat-linked) modded server, that would certainly refuel my interest.

Thumbs up by me!

While this is a bit early to announce, what the hell. I have definitely been considering adding a FTB Direwolf20 server for the Veterancraft community along with a couple of other's (e.g. creative server so you can test builds/designs). However, before this starts a slew of suggestions and comments, we have to have our new server infrastructure in place first Laugh

I actually run a test server that I use for checking things. The computer it is running on is on 24/7 so I can access from work. I use it mainly to de-layer schematics to make it easier to build stuff. But if you guys want access to it I can provide info to a admin or mod, just don't want everybody on the internet to know about it. The only downside is I had never updated it from 1.74 in fear of breaking stuff since it was a live server at one time and I was the only one running the server. There is currently two creative area's; one where the main hub is which was never suppose to be built on that is my main test area and a plot world for smaller builds. If interested you can contact me on almost any kooms1983 (most of them are me) on the internet but if you have steam that would be the best place to find me.

Even if you don't go fully to mods a server where games could be setup using Command Blocks would be awesome.  Things like SethBlings Splatoon or even CTF as discussed earlier are possible in Vanilla with command blocks (although not as flexible as you'd get with a mod)
