So today I was sitting in class and it just came to me. If you have ever seen the hunger games, then you probably know where im going. The idea of it on minecraft would be pretty cool. Basically what it is, is where there are like 8-12 players. They start with nothing. No food, no weapons, nothing. They have to fight to the death by making weapons, getting food, etc.
I don't know if this would work, but it would be pretty cool if it could work. Leave your comments on what you think.

It could work in a huge arena if evryone unloads inventory and disables god mode. What I really want is a godmode flag to be in residence. So you could set a zone to god false and its equal playing ground. Maybe you could plant some trees an.d stuff in a subzone that allows everyone to build and use.

the way I have it set up atm is there are 8 ready rooms, all the contestants go in there and there is a chest...within the chest would be the starting items and people could store all their items there until the match was over, also a bed to set your home inside the ready room. up the ladder from the ready room is an iron door...the switch for all 8 iron doors is up on the catwalk above and they open simultaneously.
Then i was thinking there could be some chests up in the trees or in the tunnels or even in the open with some items in them, or maybe dispensers with buttons so people cant take all of the items within the chests...i havent figured out all the details yet, which is part of why I havent finished the arena.

What about setting up another world with a small area limit? It's something we can refresh often enough without having a whole lot of work building and rebuilding. You can use the schematics loading and pasting feature in WorldEdit to keep the cornucopia stylized area saved separate, and just paste it into a grasslands/desert biome each month or so we refresh the arena/world.
If it works well, in later editions perhaps a day or so before the contest staff members could be given access so they can play around placing traps and supply chests around the world.
Just an idea,

I think the best idea would be that a set number(whatever people want to set it as) of people volunteer a weekbor two in advance and get their names on a board at spawn that says " this years( or months ) tributes" and those that don't get in can pay the be staff. The week before all the action starts, those that would be staff could come into the arena, be it a new world or just a res, and set traps and blessings. Maybe the staff could even build caves or secret hideouts that would make life easier for people. Then a day is set when everyone can be on for 6 hours or so and the tributes can come in and play. And after the 6 hours or whatever time, the tributes have to freeze ( maybe a / move trigger ) then everyone puts a block or their color wool where they are and everyone warps back to their beds, trades out their in game stuff for their other stuff and leaves back into metropolis
I realize there are many holes in this but this seems like a good base for establishing rules that allows players to not get time advantages over each other and sent banned from the game during the off hours of the games.

I wonder how soon it will be before there is a plugin that generates random terrain with hidden caches and traps scattered about. I give it another few months before some tech savvy minecraft/hunger games addict has their initial release. Haha.
It would be really interesting to have something like this set up in our server, but I would consider putting it in the OR as it would be rather large and space in Vetronia is already starting to become constricted.

I'm very excited to see how this plays out, and I can't wait to compete once it's open. I don't know of you're planning on making one, but I know how to make an archery range that lets you know when you hit a bullseye if you're thinking of making a training facility as well.
I know it wouldn't really work with the player base we have but if we more it would be cool to have a random selection process out of a group kind of like the reaping in the books.
May the odds be ever in your favor,
Anthony Hughes
PS. Autocorrect tried to make me say "May the odds be hedged in your favor"... When it comes to a battle to the death I may prefer the latter. >.>
