No matter how well plans are laid out, life has a way of throwing a wrench into everything. The 1.3 updates are already using up a fairly large chunk of my time as I try narrowing down root causes of those things that plague us. Last week, my company signed a multi-million, multi-year contract that had been delayed for several months and I received notification yesterday that we will be signing another large contract later this week.
Those contracts are going to be chewing up my time quite extensively for the next 2-3 weeks as we review scheduling, staff positions, prepare lifecycle management, and whatever other hoops our clients will require us to jump through.
This has two effects. First, I will not be as able to schedule maintenance, testing, and upgrade times as before. For the foreseeable future, such efforts may be a bit more intrusive and occur during peak times from time to time. In order to provide some sanity, I have designated the time frame of 4 AM – 7 AM EST as a maintenance window. What this means is during that time the server may be offline, restarted, or have limited access without any advanced notice. Outside of that time frame, I will make as best of an attempt to pre-announce server actions via the website and/or Twitter.
Second, this will delay the completion of our back-end management system for the dedicated server and inherently delay our switchover. I will still be procuring, configuring, and installing a dedicated server at the data center within the next two weeks, but I cannot reasonably see us moving Veterancraft to that server until October 1st.
