The good news is that Bukkit released Version 1.2.5-R5.0 on 7/28, which purportedly is compatible with MC 1.3 clients. What does this mean? It means that after our upgrade, you will be able to connect with a MC 1.3 client, BUT you will still be playing on a MC 1.2.5 server.
Bukkit has not yet mentioned when they expect to release a 1.3 version of the server. There are a lot of changes that need to be implemented and we feel that it will take some time. For more information see http://forums.bukkit.org/threa.....sed.88921/
In the interim, we are already performing due diligence on all of our 30+ plugins. We don’t expect this to unveil any significant problems, but nevertheless we have to do it. We will only be upgrading plugins if there are significant bugs or new features that we feel are important that can easily be integrate into our environment (e.g. newest Residence to provide additional flags). There is absolutely no sense in upgrading everything, since we expect another flurry of plugin updates when Bukkit releases its 1.3 version.
I hate making promises because they generally tend to jinx us, but given that we are only upgrading to the point of providing compatibility with the new MC 1.3 client, this should only take us a couple of hours. All of us are at work now, meaning that nothing will be started until we’ve returned home, kissed the wives, had our dinners, and then locked ourselves in our home offices. I expect that we will be upgrading the server sometime in the early morning hours, if not sooner. Obviously this is based on expectations of fair seas and following winds. Any "undocumented features" yet undiscovered, may extend this upgrade estimate.
To recap, this upgrade:
- will only make our 1.2.5 server compatible with MC 1.3 client.
- it WILL NOT add MC 1.3 features.
- plugins will only be upgraded to fix significant bugs or add features deemed important by us.

Yes, we do most testing on one of our test servers and then upload a batch patch to the production server. Total downtime should be no longer than 90 minutes, but given some recent improvements in our update process, it may take as little as 30 minutes. However, 90 minutes is the norm that I will always quote.
