Once more another update is out - Minecraft 1.2. As always, you should not upgrade until Veterancraft has updated to its server to version 1.2, otherwise you might not be able to connect.

When will we upgrade? It all depends on when the Bukkit teams puts out a Recommended Build for 1.2. In general, they are fairly quick about it, although the last 1.1 update took a bit longer than usual. We'll keep you posted (look for a main article) as we being plans for migrating to the new version.

Everyone should also be aware, that we've decided to WIPE, yes WIPE the Outer Reaches world, and replace it with a 1.2 map. We've only had the world for a short time so it makes more sense to just replace it, and save Seraph's Realm for another significant future update. If you've built anything there, NOW is the time to move your stuff out.

Bukkit has release a Beta build of 1.2. We'll be giving that a try on the test server over the next couple of days. So far, there is no reliable estimate of when a Recommended Build will become available.

I may be wrong, but given the news of Bukkit joining Mojang, they may be doing more changes/updates than usual.

Are you really that thick to think we wouldn't? Obviously we are going to upgrade to the latest 1.2.X as they find bugs/problems in previous 1.2 releases. But not until a Recommended Build comes out. For all I know, by then it will be 1.2.8.

When is the server going to update to 1.2.3? I accidentally updated and don't know how to get back to 1.1.

In regards to when, the answer lies in this thread.

As far as downgrading your installation, try Google and see if anyone (that you trust) has an older version posted. Also if you know someone that is running 1.1.x, you could copy their .minecraft folder. Just be nice and delete their lastlogin file from the copy, lest you use his IGN to log in.

There is also an application called McNostalgia, which supposedly let you downgrade Minecraft.

For a long time there was http://www.great-windmill.com for getting older versions, but I believe that site is defunct now.

In the long run, you should make a backup copy of your .minecraft folder before upgrading.

I used MCnostalgia for Spike today since he had updated and I was too lazy to go back in my room to copy the file.

Between family emergencies and work, I've finally had some time to do some serious testing of CraftBukkit Beta 1.2.3-R0.1. The server itself, without plugins seems to be stable enough.

Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about our plugins. Many of them have not yet been updated for the beta build. Once I've given all our plugins a first round of tests, I'll dig into their respective source codes and see if I can come up with a temporary fix.

At this point, Multiverse, MobBounty, Localshops, kaDiving, iConomy 6, and HeroicDeath all require updates. I'll have to see if I can pull some bleeding edge versions from the devs' sites or tweak them myself. The good news is that the newest version of Residence seems to be stable. Likewise, the newest version of SimpleSpleef also seems to work fine - for now.

74% percent (20/27) plugins have been confirmed or updated to be compatible with the new event model in CraftBukkit 1.2.3. Unfortunately, that leaves 6 plugins - HeroicDeath, iConomy, LocalShop, MobBounty, Multiverse Core, Portal, and NetherPortals - that have not been updated, or their updates are not yet compatible with 1.2.3.

HeroicDeath is done. It hasn't been updated in ages and there is no source code available. I'm looking at alternative plugins to provide customized death messages and features. In the worst case, we can live without it until something is found.

iConomy actually is compatible with CB 1.2.3, but it has one major flaw. The reintroduced /money top command causes server crashes. Unfortunately, there is no documented way to disable this command without some modifications.

LocalShop has not been updated in a long time either. Although source code is available it is not the most current. Given the complexity of this plugin, it may take some time to tweak. If it is going to take too long, then we may consider switching to a more established shop system. Needless to say, we need some solution before we migrate to 1.2.3.

MobBounty's author has promised an update, but has so far not delivered. Source code is available. If he does not update soon, I'll create a fork and do it myself. In the worst case, we could live without it until an update is available.

The Multiverse triplet - Core, Portals, & NetherPortals - is the big showstopper at the moment. I will be trying some development of the plugins to see if they are compatible and stable enough.

At this point, I don't see us switching to 1.2.3 for at least another week, unless things drop in my lap unexpectedly 😛

Good news. Development builds for Multiverse are fairly stable and seem to be working well. Likewise, I was able to resuscitate HeroicDeath. Bringing us to 24 out of 27 tested plugins (89% complete).

When I read the "Good news" portion for some reason it sounded like Professor Farnsworth's "Good news, everyone!" in my head.

Another day, another dollar. Its been a busy week, and I've been fighting with MobBounty source code to try to get it MC 1.2.3 compliant. Rather than burdening you with the details, I'll leave it at this - the source code is too convoluted to do a simple refactoring and would require a day or two of uninterrupted time to recode. While I spent some time beating my stubborn head against a hard surface for the past day, I've come to realize it easier to find a replacement, rather than getting frustrated about coding inadequacies of the author.

Its sad to say thatabout MB, it was simple and easy to configure, but I'm not about to do a job that really should be the author's responsibility. I've lined up two viable alternatives for MobBounty and will be checking them out tomorrow.

Seriously (pardon the venting), but Bukkit announced many of the of API changes well before 1.2 was released. yet many developers just chose to ignore them. Now, everyone, including myself, is clamoring for an update with none to be found. Obviously, its hurt the developer's reputation, but it also hurt our reputation giving that many of these missing update are putting additional delays before we can offer 1.2 worlds. Okay, thanks for listening, I'll stop and continue on more leveled headed.

The last puzzle piece is iConomy. As mentioned before, it works; except that one of its common commands '/money top' causes servers to crash. There have been no new updates despite several tickets that highlight this problem. My only option (short of using another economy plugin) is to manually disable this problem command until the developer resolves it.

Thanks for keeping us up to date. Yeah, you don't need to be spending time writing all that code just because the developers dropped the ball. Hopefully they get it together soon, or at least hopefully we can get a set of plugins that work for the longrun.
