With the development of the Airship port south of Vetropolis coming along fantastically, here, I was wondering if there are size and design standards for the Portal Airships that are being developed? And if not, could we use this space to talk about them? If this belongs better in Suggesions, please feel free to move it, sorry.
I'm planning for Highmoor's Vetropolis ship to be an airship, hence my interest. I'll have a harbor for other ships that would like to connect to Highmoor (and for other areas I'd like to connect to), but my Main Skyport will be built into the northern face of the moor. But I'd like to start thinking about what I'll need to do for the airship, and to do that I need the standards and requirements from staff. In that regard, I've put together this list, and hopefully they can be answered:
- Airship types?
- Hot Air Balloons
- Zeppelins
- FF-like? Examples, although certainly not all of those would be appropriate, I'm thinking more of the "propeller-and-blimp" style (FF1-6, FF9, FF11)
- Real-world aviation? Helicopters, planes, and the like.
- Hull Size?
- Balloon/Max Size?
- Style Requirements?
- Propulsion types
- Cannons
- Decks
- Others?
Anyways, I'm mostly just curious at this point. I'm sure there will be a template for an airship, just as there is a regular ship, but as Oka could attest to, I really prefer to design my own.

That pup is about the size of a Vetro large ship. But a lot more materials. 295 gold (engine?) blocks, 450 iron (reinforcement?) blocks, 5605 wool. That puts it at 2.5x as many big blocks (engine+reinforcement) and 5x as much wool.

I searched the name, downloaded the MCEdit schematic, opened it in the Minecraft Structure Planner and checked the material count. =)

Hi guys, now that I'm back from out of town one of the things I need to do is collab with the staff on airships (requirements, cost, size, etc) so we can begin taking orders on them. I apologize for how long it's taken til now.
Once I catch up with the couple hundred forum posts I need to read, I'll open a discussion with staff on this. Thanks for bringing it up Light!

So i tested to see how many i could fit with in the air docks of the airships types i made my self and i got 15 in there just an approx math.
The 2 Different size's that i got and that meat thought was big enough.
AirShip.
27*9*16 its the size of my airship i got at my base at Dustlandia. (Its a Steam'ish Airship)
*The Balloon on the airship can vary depending on the style of the airship.*
Air Balloon.
15*15*29 Its the size of the one i made at Mynodrax.
I think this ones are big enough for Air Portal Ships as i agree on meat when he said *i don't want freakin gigantic air ships.* :p

That's what those guides at the airship port are for, yes? That could certainly work, I'll have to do some tests soon. Was that including the size of the balloon, or was it just the hull?

Doing some tests, I was wondering if the airship standards could be increased just slightly. A width of 9 is really narrow, especially taking the balloon into account, so I would like to ask for 11. And at 11 wide, increasing the length to 31 looks a lot better. The height appears to be fine at 16, although I would personally prefer 19.
So if I asked for a ruling on 31x9x19 for the airship, would that be alright? I can do up a test model to show.
I would also like to suggest a contest for "default" designs. Much like we have a default ship, default airships and balloons might be helpful. Not only for providing people with standards, but so those who aren't any good at shipbuilding to have a backup.

You should build it in the middle of nowhere, and have a smaller airship go from the spawn to it.

I think I followed the width, length stuff, but I may be wrong. Anyway, here it is:
