Hey everyone, just throwing out a couple ideas for a shop I could open.
The idea would be bulk surplus goods for other shop owners that need to replenish their stock. Prices would be set to half of the going rate, setting bundle size to minimum purchase of 64.
"But potato! This sounds like you are trying to undercut everyone else!"
That is what I don't want to get into. Things like that result in price wars, buyouts (hi sasha) and really mess with the economy. So I'm thinking a solution would be to have a door to the shop, and I could add only other store owners with the use flag so they may enter and exit freely, but block access to the general public. Kind of a membership warehouse mentality.
"Members" could let me know which items they tend to run short on, and I will have a focus on making these things available to them. I just started within the last week and I am just trying to think of a creative way I can make and fill a niche market.
Leave feedback here, for this idea or other voids you know of that I could fit into.

In all honesty, I find shops useless. There's too many of them, too scattered, and often not stocked or up to date pricing. If I need something, I find chat is the quickest and easiest way to get what I want without taking a half hour to locate shops and see who has it, then go through them again to find the quantity I want, and then again for the price I want. So to conclude, I doubt many people would utilize your bulk shop as they just unload their spare crap, or product, and forget about it until someone tells them they're out.
Now if there was a web-based application that compiled shop info and listed it in categories, I think shop usage would be greatly expanded.

I agree with billy exepy I do use shops for wool mart and other stuff I don't want to breed for. Sascha really keeps up on wool mart. I just wish it was there when I was making my super boat for 2.5 shillings per wool and I needed like 5 stacks

i th8ink this is a clever idea at least, but billy has a point. i notice that people either just post on the forums if they need bulk of a product or post in chat if they need something else. also, untill the plugin is updated and allows for all of the items that came with 1.2 and up, shops arnt exactly useful in many cases, plus the stuf i usually need in bulk are things no one sells, such as dirt or cobble. and those request ar better done in chat than in
i do use them if i need a diamond block or something like that, but i also find that many places run out when i go to buy from them, i think haveing the shops in the mall-like building off o the plaza is good for small things, but i feel too nmany people are just buying multiple shops and selling individual goods out of them that could easily be put into one shop. as well as with so many shops, some will run out fast. so i feel if people want to hold their shops, this idea would be awesome for helping them keep stock, but you will probably need to hire a few more hands to make this doable.

Well thanks for the input. I myself like specialized shops, I know where to go to buy certain things, it takes a lot less time, which was one of Billy's gripes about shops.
So the input thus far is:
I don't like shops
I only use shops for things that need effort and planning to amass significant quantities, i.e. wool
Shops don't sell the low value items/chat is an easier way to get them.
So the result is:
Continue not using shops
Maybe sell a pain to get item, like leather or ink sacs
Try to nickel and dime my fortunes by selling tons of dirt and cobble at like .05 ea.. lots of effort for small gains. I would have to be open to buying dirt and cobble for like .02, and that is assuming anyone is willing to even bother with such small amounts vs just dropping your overflow into lava
I have yet to hear feedback from other shop owners, which is what my original idea was tailored to, but in the meantime I will consider the feedback I've gotten so far.

I do see an issue with the activity of shops.
Specialized shops is a great idea, because as others have said, it makes it
easy for players to find them, and know exactly where to go for what they
want. But part of the problem will still remain, and that is that a lot of
players on this server are veterans to minecraft (pun intended) and tend
to try and be as self reliant as possible, meaning they try to provide
themselves with everything they need, and dont bother with the shops
at all or very little. Until more people are open to not doing everything
themselves, and actually spending their shillings and stimulating the
economy, this will continue to be a problem.
Ida, I personally think it is a very clever idea. I also applaud you for trying
to find a niche in the market without trying to step on other shop owners
toes, so to speak. Would it work? Probably not with the current state of
things. But it sure would be great if we can somehow find a solution to
some of the issues I mentioned above and make something like this
not just a possibility, but a damn good probability.
I myself have been trying to think of ways to get the shop system, and
the economy in general, stimulated beyond the occasional shop purchases
or manual labor jobs that people sometimes offer. Some of the ideas I
have kicked around are forced shop specialization, which would be difficult
to find a fair way to implement, and possibly forbidding personal trading in
public chat which would be extremely unpopular, and make it more tedious
to sell items that cant be stocked in shops, such as enchanted items.
Truthfully, I havent come up with any good solutions yet, but I do feel
strongly that something needs to change to enrich the economy and
shop experience.

I think the main problem is that you can't stock shops with the newer stuff. It would be very conviniant to have a shop that sold all the enchanted tools, and another for potion ingredients. Sadly, I think that requires work on frelling's behalf and he is far to busy to focus on this.
