I thought it'd be necessary to say a few things here that I wanted to share. First of all, yes I've been off of VC for a while. Does it mean I'm quitting? Not if I can help it, I'm really just taking a short break. I will get on soon enough to make sure everything stays, I don't want to lose anything I've done on this server. Second of all, I haven't mentioned this to anyone else, but I have a crazy idea in my head. This in particular is why the post is off topic, because this has nothing to do with Veterancraft whatsoever. So, there's a particular kind of mod in my head that I would love to have, but unfortunately it's... well, nonexistant. I am an absolute newbie at coding, and really all I am capable of is copy+paste so far, but I am willing to learn if I really want to go through with the mod.                                                                          The idea is to have 3 incredibly expensive, yet incredibly powerful armor sets with different abilities. Alone, each piece is like diamond armor in every way, except slightly increased durability. When together, however, all the pieces become unbreakable, and you gain passive powers, as well as the ability to transform into the ultimate form depending on what type of armor is being worn. Each ultimate form will have wings and will be able to fly, as well as a special ability and appropriately awesome music to accompany you while you destroy everything. The form, however, drains your hunger rather quickly, as in 1 hunger every 2 seconds. The crafting recipes will either be surrounding diamond equipment with 4 new crafting items, or it could also be made of the items outright. The items are based off of taking nether stars and surrounding them with 8 of a certain item. The stars I have in mind will be said along with the armor. As for rules, passive abilities and the unbreakable passive would be active when all four armor pieces are on, but the Ultimate form would only be accessible by having the sword with the armor set in hand. Here's a concept of the armors.

     Holy Armor

Crafted by surrounding any diamond armor piece or sword with 4 Pure Stars (Crafted by surrounding a nether star with 8 blocks of glowstone)

Passive- regain 1 health per 2 seconds extra in 13 RL or higher

Ultimate form- Angel of Judgement

  • Can fly
  • Fires a laser of light that deals 100 damage to undead enemies and pacifies other mobs for 5 seconds (uses 4 hunger)
  • Epic music!

     Draconic Armor

Crafted by surrounding any diamond armor piece or sword with 4 Molten Stars (Crafted by surrounding a nether star with 8 blaze rods)

Passive- Fire resist (Swim in lava and walk into fire without taking damage!)

Ultimate form- Dragon Knight

  • Can fly
  • Breathes fire up to 4 blocks away, setting all enemies in range on fire (plus 1 extra damage during time being hit by attack) (uses 1 hunger per second of use)
  • Epic music!

     Dark Armor

Crafted by surrounding any diamond armor piece or sword with 4 Eclipsed Stars (Crafted by surrounding a nether star with 8 blocks of obsidian)

Passive- Regain 1 hp per 2 seconds extra in total darkness (rl 0)

Ultimate form- Death

  • Can fly (has black wings, if you need to know)
  • Fires a dark ball that takes control of undead enemies, causing them to attack other mobs (10 second duration) and deals 10 damage to other enemies (Uses 2 hunger)
  • Eerie music?

To add to that, I thought of an enchanted book that you can only find in dungeons.

     Energy

Energy would come in 3 levels. The enchantment would increase the maximum hunger by a certain amount.

I- 2 hunger

II- 4 hunger

III- 6 hunger

This could be used to enchant your armors so you can stay in your ultimate form longer.

None of this has been officially decided at all. It's still a big possibility I won't even do it. There's a lot of things that I'd have trouble with:

1. There is no mod similar enough to it that I can find, so it WILL have to be made from scratch

2. Many features that it would have are not included in other mods, so I can't learn from other mods on certain things

3. Music (I'd either have to get licensing to use music from someone else or make it myself, unless someone was skilled at this and wanted to help. This means it would have to be fully recorded or digitally made.)

4. The armors may be underpowered, overpowered, or even boring after a short while.

5. I have NO experience with coding mods. At all. Whatsoever.

Now, why did I post a mod concept here in VC's forums of all places? Because I felt like it. I can get honest opinions from people I know better than just the general public, as I may or may not do this, and if I do decide to do it, it could take years to code. If you have an opinion, or even want to help out, please post below. If you want to post about what I was saying at the start of this post for whatever reason, go ahead.Either way, I'd love to here back!

It's different. Just realize that you're offering some fairly game breaking changes here. Perhaps make it harder to acquire, and wrap it into some sort of role-play. The biggest issue here is that there are no downsides to any of these. You can't give someone some amazing buffs without a tradeoff.

Thank you for commenting. I was thinking that it might be a little too easy to get these things. I'm thinking that another way it could work is that you could only acquire the items to craft from difficult bosses. After thinking about it more, the Wither is just slightly hard to make because it takes a while to get the skulls. He's not a very difficult boss. You'd just need to kill an easy boss 20 times to get the armors, so maybe it's best to not make it repetitive, but a lot more challenging. I'm thinking that you would have to face bosses in hopes of getting the crafting item you want. This will mean that if you didn't get the item, then you're going to have to try again. The bosses could be at the end of dungeons with several traps and spawners. I think the crafting would change if it's like this. I think that maybe a good idea would be to have 5 different bosses that drop items for crafting the helm, the chest, the leggings, the boots and the sword. I may post ideas for what the items would be soon, but tell me if you like this idea better than just getting it from the Wither.

(P.S. The dungeons would be hard to find, as well)

If you're planning on making a mod for custom armors and flight, you should check out these links as a reference - these are some mods that have already explored similar territory...

http://www.minecraftforum.net/.....downloads/

(vanilla plus mod - has custom armors with special abilities if you wear the whole set)

http://www.minecraftforum.net/.....lkingdead/

(the parachute mod seems like it offers something very close to flying, especially with the "thermal lift" part that allows you to raise in altitude as well as fall)

Some things to check out for reference anyway...

This is unrelated to your mod idea, but it is relevant in the fact that it is my own mod idea.

This mod will allow for a building to be built in creative, copied by the mod, and saved. Then, the player could log onto a survival world, load up the saved build, orient it the way he/she wants it, and the mod would generate a translucent copy of the build in the spot the player desires. Then, the player would only have to gather the necessary supplies and build. This would eliminate world switching and make complex redstone contraptions easier to transfer from creative to survival with little to no error in the redstone logic. This latter function would be very near and dear to my heart, as I am not the best at remembering every little detail of my redstone :P Still, I try, and it leads to hours of searching for that one misplaced torch or the one mistimed repeater or that one missing piece of wire, et cetera, et cetera, blah, blah, blah.
I have very limited experience in coding (I have just learned strings, and I am having a BLAST messing with those.), but I enjoy it and find it exceptionally easy so far. Due to my inexperience, however,  I would need help from an experienced coder. If anyone wold be able to help me, that would be much appreciated.

The copy generated by the mod is not real (just an outline of sorts), so this would not be hacking or cheating. I also do not see this as a game-breaking, exploitable function that could wreck havoc, so it would be server-safe. My goal is to see this mod made and allowed on the server so as to make building experiences better. It would be nice to be able to figure out the quirks in a creative world, want to build it in a survival world, and just be able to build off of a blueprint rater than having to constantly switch worlds.

Just an idea!

See you on the server!

Well, there IS a mod similar to your ideal mod. In creative mode you can select a cuboid area and save it as blueprints, then draw them in survival mode. The thing I like about it is that though it does instantly build the creation, you still require everything needed if you were to build it yourself, so it's basically copying your own creations with the same materials and in a fraction of the time. Here's the mod if you are interested: http://www.minecraftforum.net/.....bug-fixes/

Unfortunately it's only 1.6.4 now, but it still looks pretty good.

...it does instantly build the creation...

I don't know if that would be allowed on the server. I know you said it still requires all the necessary materials in order to be built, but this server is (as far as I can tell) about realism and not breaking the game via mods, hacks, or glitch exploitation.

The mod you refer to does seem to be a little cheaty. If it were to simply tell the user where to place things and how much of something is needed (that would save me about 17 minutes of tp cooldown....), then I think it would be allowed to run on the server.

Well, I don't actually use that mod, I just saw it and thought it was interesting because it was much less game breaking than all of those instant structure mods. Plus, I was technically wrong, you have to use a hammer to whack at the table you use to place the building 10 times per layer. However, it would probably be a little too game changing for VC's standards. Just mentioning it.
