I sit here at my desk and think of all I could have been:

A fireman, a soldier or a rising leader of men.

See, in those jobs I wouldn't be secluded in this cell,

a 10x10 foot cubicle, a fluorescent sterile hell.

In another job I'd be outside, and keeping my mind active.

Whereas now I sit with a brain of tapioca,

and can't seem to rhyme at the moment.

The worst part is that from this place I can't get on to VeteranCraft.

As much as I wish and yearn, my job just wouldn't last.

The Information Technology folks would see my bandwidth rise,

and they'd descend to investigate like poo attracting flies.

It's almost cruel that I can still see Dynmap and the forum,

At seven-hundred and twelve posts, my visits save me from boredom.

I actually have an important job, a manager, a boss,

but it's not like I am balls-to-the-wall, I have time in surplus.

So here I sit in a windowless room, staring at my PC.

My work is done, I'm all caught up....

and can't get on VC. Confused

When you're running around, building away,

from 8am to 5pm on any EST weekday,

remember there is a wistful player wishing he was there,

and watching down from high above in the Dynmap's air.

You needn't fear, I'm quiet sincere;

I'm not your Uncle Touchy.

But know that if you break the rules,

my eye might be on you, buddy.

My rhyme is done, and so is my fun,

and no I'm not a poet.

It's back to work for political jerks,

and once again *phft* on the lyric.

"Awake, oh man, and be wise." -Thoth

Wonderfully written, LWK. While not always awe-inspiring or magnificent, work is a (lamentably) necessary part of our lives.

Love it! Great illustration of being in a windowless cubicle.

I really like your poem. Maybe you are a poet, but you don't know it!
