Hey all,

In order to prevent the Who are you IRL? thread from straying, I've started this one to discuss everyone's favorite show about an old man in a big blue box.

The answer to the First Question...any takers?

Like i said in the IRL thread i have a suspicion it might have something  to do with why he is called the doctor but that's just me. (looking at all the wrong things most likely XD)

Whatever it is im hoping it might have something to do with why he's been running for all those years.

[SPOILERS]

I'm certain that it's related to his lifetime(s) of running. Perhaps he has a greater destiny or responsibility that he can't or won't acknowledge? His chat with (the head of) Dorium Maldovar sums it all up nicely. There's also the phone chat between the Tenth Doctor and the Master: "And what about you? The Doctor? The man who make people better...how sanctimonious is that?"

The 7th Doctor's episodes were littered with breadcrumbs about the Doctor being substantially more than just a Time Lord but that storyline was sadly tanked.

I have my TARDIS key. Do you have yours? Kiss

When Doctor Who aired on PBS back in the 80's, I was too young to grasp the importance of pledging. No TARDIS key for me. Cry I do however still have the coffee mug with the 7th Doctor's logo.

I think it looks like an interesting show but I have yet to get into it, I've watched maybe 1-2 episodes so for the time being I have no idea what any of this "TARDIS" Stuff is, I'm sure if I get a lot of spare time il start watching it.

Your best bet is to start at the beginning of the "new" series (2005) which introduces the 9th Doctor.

I just recently started Doctor Who with the 9th doctor, and I'm pretty impressed with what I have seen so far. I'm nearing the end of season 2 on Netflix; can't wait to see what's in store!

I'm a DW fan myself, although I only started watching when 11th went live. I've seen the odd episode of 10, but none of 9. I feel like the current season (7 pt 2 I think) Is not as "good" as other seasons from 11. Doesn't grip me like the other episodes do. =(

...Okay. I'm going to admit it right now. Many tears were shed at the end of "Doomsday"... TV shows usually don't even affect me like this, but... Sheesh, there went the waterworks. D: Markings of a great show, though!

Doomsday is one of the saddest episodes they manage to pull the strings well whenever they change the companions around one of the reasons i love the show so much that and the little throw back now and again to the original series.

Watch the season 7 ender. Do it, then join me in an endless stream of OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG followed by some intelligent discussion.

"What I did, I did without choice."

John Hurt as the 12th(?) Doctor, warlord supreme. This explains the Anti-Doctor army in A Good Man Goes to War. It was nice to see the Valeyard getting a mention (future projection of a possible 13th Doctor from the 6th Doctor era).

I feel like an idiot now XD

There's a couple of theories i have on the subject but the one i want it to be (which it likely wont be but i can dream XD) is that its possibly The Other i don't know if you know much about this theory but The Other was one of the three that founded Gallifrey. You can look it up on the wiki if you want to know more but i'm kinda grasping at straws the Doctor clearly knows who he is as it's "his little secret" and even if he is the 12th what about the 13th i may have missed it but if it was showing all of his forms where was the 13th maybe hes killed while still the 12th but who knows im not articulating this very well and i apologise for that but hes the only form of the doctor who isn't running around what do you think i want to type more but my brains gone blank and i cant remember the episode ill have to re watch the end again.

EDIT: I just looked up the Valeyard (as I've not had the chance to see a lot of the original due to not being able to find them any where most of my memory is from reruns from when i was 12 im 25 now so my memory is fuzzy at best) But it makes a lot of sense which makes my theory less absolute as i was hoping XD im looking forward to the 50th episode even more now to answer these questions which im sure they'll add to as well.

Big Who announcement! Matt Smith is apparently officially leaving the show.  He will be in the 50th anniversary, and his last episode is planned to be the Christmas special this year.

I was just about to post that makes me worried they're burning through his remaining regenerations rather quickly there gonna need a way to increase them or reset them if they want to continue the show.

The 12 regeneration limit hasn't been mentioned in the new series at all (like many other dangling plot lines from the old series). When Matt Smith did a cameo on The Sarah Jane Adventures, when Clyde asked him how many times he could regenerate, he said "Five hundred and seven."

As for Matt Smith leaving, booooo! Despite a rough start and at least half a season of weakly written episodes, I finally like his take on the Doctor. Given the events in "The Name of the Doctor", this could all be neatly connected.

November 23 should be today. December 25 should immediately follow. Make this happen.
