On Saturday, March 2nd, 2013, VeteranCraft will be hosting a Tree House Build-Off event. We are looking for a maximum ten individuals to compete to construct the most awe inspiring tree homes known to Minecraft!

Those who are not online by 5:30PM Eastern, even if they make it on-line before 6:00PM Eastern, will be unable to compete. When is the Build Off?: 6:00pm EST Saturday March 2, 2013

When am I expected to be on-line?: At (or before) 5:30pm EST

Questions:

  • Will the tree be provided, or will we be required to "grow" it ourselves?  If it's provided, can we modify it if it doesn't suit our needs?
  • What is the size of the build plots?
  • How long will the Build Off last?  The standard hour we've done before?
  • Is this a single-player competition, or are teams allowed?  Max number within a team?

Gonna admit, I am a bit nervous/hesitant because I've never been in a building competition before... but, never know if I don't try, eh?

One other thing- are we allowed to add on to the tree itself, it make it like a bigger tree to suit our needs?

For those wondering about the build off, or have concerns, per our past buildoff competitions:

the plot size will usually be announced on the day of the event, to hinder the "pre-planning" idea.

Materials are generally gathered by the competitors unless otherwise stated in the event description.

The "tree" is not limited to a single sapling + growth.  The tree may be of your size of choosing.  perhaps you wish to make an 8W x 8L x 100T tree, and hollow it out.  This is not quite reasonable to build in an hour's time though.  Make an effort to be creative, though.  The more creative, the better the overall results.

** any special rules like tree supplied, built for you, team effort, or things of that nature would be posted in the original competition sign up.

I did not read any specifics, but would assume the competition lasts for 1 hour, single player, gather your own materials, build your own tree, and most importantly, have fun!

I will not be competing, though I will be there to show off your skills, and builds to the public via youtube.

There are 3 steps one must take to profit in today's economy: 1.) Learn from lessons taught by others 2.) Don't give away everything you know.

I'm assuming... gather your on materials can be before the competition, correct? o_o Or is it in that 1 hour time span?

These specifics weren't mentioned in the post or sign-up, so I will use these as true until told otherwise, thanks!Laugh

In previous build-offs, you just used whatever you had in storage beforehand, and we'll have time to stock on-site chests before the competition begins.  We'll be allowed to leave the competition site if we need to go back and get more materials.
This might be giving away too much to the competition, but since I like it fair: I recommend spending time this week gathering the materials you plan to use on Saturday, particularly logs and leaves for the tree.

Light is correct - You use materials that you gather before.

I have awesome shoulders.

I neglected to be as clear as I should have in my original post. It has been updated to better explain this competition.

Thanks for clarifying, Tony!  Hopefully it'll be a full house of competitors, this is the first time I've competed in a Build and I'm pretty excited :)

I'd love to participate, though the competition is looking quite stiff! It should be very fun.

Sorry to say this, but I'm afraid I may not be able to attend on Saturday. It's about a 50/50 chance I'll be there, so I would prefer to withdraw rather than leave you in the dark. Sorry!

Registration is closed, all names and permissions have been handed over. Contestants are free to ferry over materials early,  setting up extra chests if needed. Building, outside of expanding your workstation, is strictly prohibited.

See you all at five thirty!
