Heya people! Dave here again!

I was just wondering if I could contribute a few ideas for community builds that would improve people's experiences on the server.

Idea 1: A protected area in the End for an Ender Ender (see tutorial here).
I believe that a community experience farm would do the server some good as well as make for some very interesting PvP matches. The build is very simple and the farm is very efficient, so I see no reason that this build would be too difficult to undertake (if there is a reason, please enlighten me!). However, I know the End is an open-PvP area and that an enderman farm is a bit OP, so if this build idea is rejected, I understand why.

Idea 2: A villager trading hall (see tutorial here).
Again, I believe that this build would provide the players with an enhanced experience on the server. This, like the previous idea, is also a tad OP due to the possibility of the "perfect villager" showing up. Nevertheless, as most villagers do not have such sought-after trades in the final infinite trading slot, this should not present a huge problem. This idea, unlike the Ender Ender, would not have to be built in an open-PvP area, so that eliminates that reason to reject the idea. Such a trading hall would have more benefits for the server than detriments, and I think that this is a more reasonable build idea.

That's all I have for this. Thanks to whoever can give me any information on this!

P.S. I have searched the forums for these requests and could not find any, but if this post is a redundancy, I apologize.
P.P.S I also apologize for my frequent periods of long absences from the server. I know people miss me, but there are more important things than Minecraft. Hard to believe, yes, but a good education matters more to me than a video game. I will try to get back on ASAP. <3

Thanks!                 -Dave

See you on the server!

Ender Ender absolutely! I had been thinking about building one of these, I didn't consider that it might be an issue. What would be the problem with having PVP on in the end?

Well, having PvP on would pose a problem to both the builders and the users. Isn't the idea of a community build to make a safe place that everyone can use? If PvP is on, any users would be at risk of losing their items and/or experience. And whoever would be building this would be at risk of death as well, due to the knockback of an arrow being strong enough to knock the builder from their perch far off the island. They would fall into the void and lose everything.

That being said, I'm not sure if making an area 144 blocks away from the main island a safe zone would really affect the overall PvP/grief atmosphere in the End. The whole island would not have to be made safe, just the Ender Ender itself.

No offense to anyone who likes to PVP, but I do believe that anyone who would kill someone working on a community project could be considered a jerk. The builders are there for the good of the community, and I don't know why anyone would be so rude as to do something like that. However, there are several people on the server, so now I understand why this might pose a problem. Even so, you are also right about the fact that the machine would be far enough away whereas we may able to prevent any issues occurring.

I wouldn't support disabling PvP via any means, but I doubt you would have any issues if you were building this. We're a small community, and players understand that their actions may have far reaching social effects if they're rude.

I want to pick up idea no. 2.

To have a villager trading hall would be nice, I think. Whether it's necessary to install a sophisticated mechanism in order to kick any entity that doesn't fit into our needs... well, I doubt it. Since, who decides what a good villager is? Can everybody use to "kill-botton", if it is a public construction?

But I like the orginal idea of this suggestion and so I propose: The Vetropolis Stock Exchange, a building really missing in our capital. :D

It would have two functions: first, being another representative edifice in Vetropolis (especially on the reclaimed but still unused land), and second, as said, being a place for villager trading.

However, long story short, voilà one example of how such a Bourse could look like...

Trading hall inside. Villagers are trapped, so no need to chase them... ;)

I would like to add on to idea no. 2 and Pauli's expansion of it.. (Really cool architecture ideas Pauli! Cool) I think a Stock Exchange would be a wonderful idea and a great addition to Vetropolis. I think the villager idea is great, but I would also add something that displays the average cost of materials, blocks, etc for all the shops on the server.

I know you can just walk into Merchant Hall and type "/shop find [item]", but that only displays that item in shops within [I believe] a 100-block radius. Obviously Merchant Hall and the freestanding plots near the Harbor are more than 100 blocks apart, so often times you can find yourself running back and forth to try and find the best price on an item. And that's not to mention the various freestanding shops scattered thousands of blocks away across the map. Such an Exchange Board could either display the average cost for an item on the server, or the highest and lowest costs for an item on the whole server (or both...). This way, players would know what a fair price is for something (and what a good or bad price is). It could also list values for what prices shops are buying an item to replenish their inventory.

Like I said above, I know you can already find most of this information with a res command; the Stock Exchange would simply be a way to centralize the information for all the shops in the game without having to run or tp back and forth between them. The information could either be displayed on signs, or something like the black boards in Pauli's second picture, or with a res command similar to the current one (if such a command/mod exists). Obviously there are multitudes of items and blocks in Minecraft, so to keep things from getting too cluttered, perhaps limiting the items to blocks like stone bricks, sandstone, clay blocks, types of logs/wood, the ores, etc may be required. (Exchanges for tools, armor, enchantments, etc could be added later elsewhere just like there are multiple stock markets and exchanges).

Here are some visuals. The first picture lists simple cost per share of a company, which could be the average cost of an item on the server.

Stock-Exchange-2.jpg

The second picture (taken from CNNMoney this morning) shows current prices for various commodities and their high and low prices over the course of a year, which could translate into average price and highest/lowest price for blocks on the server.

Stock-Exchange-1.JPG

I know there could be risks associated with implementing such a system... for instance, once players realize who's goods are most expensive, they may abandon all commerce with that shop for said block. But hey, isn't that what a free market is all about? Businesses need to become more cost-efficient to stay in business! But then again, it could cause a "race to the bottom" where everyone sells something for the same price, potentially choking the idea of a free market.

I know location could be an issue; ideally a Stock Exchange should probably be near the Merchant Hall to prevent having to run too far and thus exacerbate the problem it's trying to solve, but that's a topic for another debate.

Apologies for the length of this post! (I apparently love to write and develop ideas!) Have a good one!

Glad you guys are liking the ideas! :D

These are things that irked me when I found out they were nonexistent on the server, and I have really wanted to see them implemented. Whether or not that means they end up being implemented remains to be seen.
Nevertheless, I do like the thought process! There are ideas that I never would have thought of that have been posted here! Oh, human collaborativeness is a wonderful thing!

One thing that I believe should be implemented is the opportunity to find every possible villager deal (or at the very least a large percentage of them) and that there should be "competition" among the villagers. I know this is not how the stock market works, but it would give options to the consumer, which is (sorta) how the stock market works. You have the choice between AAPL and MSFT, or between GOOG and YHOO, etc.; why not have the choice between this pork merchant and that pork merchant or between this paper merchant and that paper merchant?

Anyway, regardless of whether or not any of this actually happens, I am glad that one of my ideas has been so widely accepted and friendlily (the adverb of the adverb! friendly-ly, if you will) critiqued and accepted! :D
This is probably the most successful idea I have ever had! Thanks people! =D

See you on the server!

Just noticed this thread.  I built an EnderEnder for the community about a week ago, so cross that off the list, my gift to the server.

I'm always happy to contribute materials or time to any community projects.  I've got a handful of ideas for buildings I've built in creative worlds over the years if that serves any use.

Dude, that Ender Ender is amazing!

It's so good to see the community coming together in the Ender Ender itself, like Vetra providing a machine gun and a ender pearl disposal system. I also noticed Sts, Coolrox and some others donating things like anvils, enchanting tables and food! Adding to the problems we had before, the farm is so fast that you can get to any level without even AFK'ing. It's also safe from players using that Vetra machine gun! Just earlier I enchanted like a chest full of items! The endermen are far enough away from the island so that they cannot teleport back, there is also a safe tunnel to the xp farm!

Great work, Jeff, and thank you. I want to see more of your work!

I'd also like to add my own idea, a "Donor Hall of Fame".

This could be a area at spawn, with a list of players who have ever donated to the server. I could also work as a building, with a room for each type of donor, Knight, Bishop, Ambassador & Viceroy. It wouldn't be very functional, but it would show new players how many players have donated.

Thats my idea, hope you guys like it!

You forgot to mention that Clearlake Clearance (B14) was the donor of those lovely, convenient enchanting tables! ;D

Sounds like we have some pretty awesome brainstorming going on here!

If anyone else wants to pitch in, they can! This is a thread about your ideas; we accept anything and everything and we won't judge you no matter how ridiculous your idea is. It's an idea, it doesn't have to be realistic! That's the beauty of this game! :D
