Hello all. i am Unorthodox99 and i am currently building a sky settlement. I have named it Windborro, for lack of a better name. if you can come up with a better name, ill consider it and possibly change it. now to the point. I am needing to build floating islands to house the plots of my "city". these islands are essential as no one wants to live on the ground right? egh. also, they'll open up almost unlimited builing room in the sky for me. the islands will be composed of smoothstone and grass, nothing else, and will be at the same level as the mountaintops. Im also needing donations to res the area. Im accepting donations of 2000 or more (large area to res). you can get there by going to yertopia (great place by the way) and following the cobble road to my city. fell free to stop by and check out the city. it features a derilict fortress, mountain farm, warehouse and castle(my home). come on by and say hi! thanks

Before you begin, remember that building in the sky is against the Rules. I don't know if any exceptions have been made on this server yet, but if you're serious about it, you'll probably need to prove your concept to the staff before they'll allow it.

We get a few requests pertaining to a floating sky settlement, but nothing ever gets panned out. Do you have any pictures for us to reference so we can see what it might look like? Remember to keep the sky islands as 'natural' looking as possible. Also, with the name, our spelling would be 'boro' or borough', which normally indicates its a fort (although not all the time). Is there a plan for a fort or did the name just sound good at the time. The German variant would be berg, so it would be Windberg. I honestly like the name, but I do prefer the Windborough or Windboro spelling.

Ok, i figured out to upload pics. apparently my computer didn't have flash, so i switched to another. Anyway heres some photos of the island.
Here's the fortress you inquired about. You can see my castle to the left. the fortress houses the nether portal. you should maybe just come and see for yourself though.

You should consider digging out the area under the island(s) to mirror the island so it looks like the land lifted up from below.

Perhaps, but isnt that the mystery? No one knows where these islands came from, or how long they've existed. Ooooooh, mystery! Also, maybe if I run out of materials.

Is that screenshot the size of your 'city' idea? It would fit in my bathroom, so I'm not quite sure it qualifies as a city. But that's ok, I'm more likely to approve a smaller thing like this than a 600x600 area blocking out the sun.

As I said before, the city is on the mountains. The islands are only for housing plots. The city is built Into the terrain of mountains and the remaining surface area of the mountains isn't enough to have plots.

Alrighty! I have gotten most of Windborro res'd and the skyport is finished! Thanks to a generous donation by jamesjjw, the city is secure and i have created a couple plots. The skyport has a bounty of docks by which people can build an airships. Keep in mind that this is a city far above the ground and if you are killed by falling, I am not responsible. On a different note this city is exciting and new! Built on a range of floating mountains and server approved floating islands, it's the only city where you can live on the edge, literally! I'm currently amassing funds for a portal ship, but in the meantime take the boat to Scottland, walk down the road to yertopia and then follow the cobblestone road the way to windborro. On the topic of travel, my airship (warship) design is currently being analyzed by the admins. Hopefully it will be approved and I can begin construction 
I've gotten very good feedback on the archetechure and theme of my city so I hope you all will stop by and say hi even you don't stay awhile. My bank account is severly depleeted and any kind of donation is very welcome. Alright, well ,see you around!
