Hey, VC. I've decided to finally create a post for my future city, Eirendale (pronounced AIR-en-dail), to document my progress.
The background (I'll call it the lore ) of Eirendale: It's a hybrid elven/human city, with its elven population dying out or emigrating and human population on the rise. Their differences in culture have wrought some conflicts and feuds between members of the two races, but hopefully the Celebrian's recent marriage to a human man will help ease the tension. (That's me btw, I'm using the Tolkien elven name Celebrian, which means "silver queen", as a title, and if I bought one, that would be it. Also I didn't actually get married, lol). The queen is currently working with her master builder to accommodate for the humans while still holding true to elven desires. (For instance, maintaining the ancient sacred grove for the elves' worship and building a chapel for the humans'.)
As a human medieval/fantasy-type city, it'll have the expected look to the architecture, pretty similar to Exodus. The elven aspects will include some Gothic and Nordic touches while holding nature in the highest regard. So far, I have the castle laid out and the main parts of it finished in creative mode. Now, I'm trying to continue planning the city, which is really why I began this post.
I started out a while back by going around the central forested valley (a few times) and choosing the best spots for towers [pink circles] and entrances to the city [green circles]. I’m not yet sure if I will have walls, but I do know that I will try to fortify natural barriers where they exist. Yesterday, I sketched out some possible roads [orange for main roads and yellow for lesser major roads]. Now I’m going to go try mapping it on the server to see if it all works out. I know there are some steep hills in there, so some of those roads might change significantly. I hope to claim the entire area in the red square, which will take a while since I’m hoarding 50,000 shillings for a future airship, but I’m almost there at about 46K, so I am spending a bit on claim blocks. Speaking of airships, mine will be the one I posted in creations a while back, in either of the spots marked with pink arrows. The dock will come off the top of the cliff, which will have either a tower built into it or just an open-air stairwell. I also would like to put a minecart station at the base of the cliff.
The reason I want the entire area within the red square is so that I can connect up the river running on the west and north sides of the valley as much as possible near my claim. Then, Eirendale can make use of it for fishing, riverside mills, and transportation (people and cargo) to and from the village I have claimed to the NE. Since the mountain soil isn’t the most fertile, most of our food has always been imported from the village by small barges sent up the river. More recently, the human population has begun keeping livestock pastures in the nearby foothills to satisfy their craving for meat, fueling another dispute between the races.

That’s about all I have for now, though I have been planning this for many months and have compiled a list of all the buildings I want, I haven’t totally nailed down the architecture, and I still would like to come up with some unique features to set my city apart.
Cheers, pixel_chic

A great start to the lore! And a wonderful location to build! Reminds me a bit of Gondolin, which is highly appropriate.
A word of advice on the roads....don't get too specific with their concept until you start building. You'll find that if you do the roads too early they'll hamper your building ideas. I made that mistake with Highmoor. I recommend only doing the major roads (through-ways) first, and then doing the smaller roads only as your city takes shape.
Good luck!

Ah yes. I have dropped a few hints on the lore, and that paragraph I responded to Frenchy/Snow laid out the basic plot.
But trust me when I say that is nothing compared to what is to come, if I have my way.
I'm hoping to use the really-out-of-date Lore Wiki properly, when it comes time to start posting updates on Aelfheim, and serve as an inspiration for others to do so as well. There's SO much untapped potential for VC. It'll be nice to see some real thought put behind builds like yours. Good luck!
