New Market shop requests | Cities & Towns | Forum

Rent for each shop is free, but you must agree to follow these rules.  None of these rules are arbitrary.  Each one is intended to address issues that have occurred at previous markets as explained below:

1) DO NOT ALTER THE ROOF OF YOUR SHOP OR BUILD ABOVE IT.

     The shops at New Glacia had widely varying ascetic standards and also various states of completion.  To address this, the shops in New Market are pre-built.  Shopkeepers have build permission on the interior of their shop and can fix it up in any way they like, but they cannot alter the exterior (custom alterations are possible, see below).

2) USE THE DOOR OF YOUR SHOP ONCE A MONTH TO SHOW YOU ARE ACTIVE.

     There were several complaints that the best spaces in New Glacia were taken up by inactive players.  The server rules state: "If you do not log into the server for 30 days, your buildings will be removed. (excludes contributors)"  This also applies to sub-claims in New Market. By simply opening and closing your door, the Mayor can tell that you are active without pestering server staff.  See RULE INFRACTIONS below.

3) THE FOLLOWING ARE PROHIBITED: ITEM FRAMES, PAINTINGS, VILLAGERS, LIVESTOCK, DARKROOM SPAWNERS, AND ARMOR STANDS.

     The Market Hall in Vetropolis had so many entities that there was serious lag throughout the city. With 36 shops in New Market, just a few entities in each would cause the same problem.  This rule is intended to prevent that.

REQUESTING A SHOP:

You can request a shop by replying to this thread with the shop number that you want and the name of your shop.  By requesting a shop you are agreeing to abide by these rules.  Shops are assigned on first-post-first-serve basis.  When you are assigned a shop, you are given trust on the sub-claim in the interior of the shop, the Mayor will change the numbers on your shop's billboard to the first 3 letters of your shop's name and replace the iron doors with wooden doors.  It's up to the shopkeeper to setup the interior and to use JCShops--so make sure you read the JCShops Guide.

RULE INFRACTIONS:

The Mayor of New Market is just a normal player.  He is not server staff.  The Mayor has no authority to confiscate or remove other players' property in the sub-claims and no ability to alter JCShops inventories (other than buying and selling stuff).  If a shopkeeper is not following these rules, they will first be reminded of them and reminded that they agreed to follow them.  If the shopkeeper continues to be recalcitrant, the only punitive actions the Mayor can take are to revoke trust within the sub-claim and to seal the shop door.  It is sincerely hoped that no situation ever comes to that.

CUSTOM ALTERATIONS:

So you want stained glass instead of clear glass in your shop windows?  You don't want your billboard to be made of glowstone?  That's no problem, just provide the materials and the Mayor can fix it for you.  Even if you don't like the exterior design of any of the available shops, the Mayor can build your design provided that it fits in the same space and looks like it belongs in a desert oasis town.  However, custom alterations have a lower priority than other work the Mayor has already begun.
