I thought I'd start a thread on Highmoor, mostly as placeholder but also to get some of my ideas down, so others can know what I'm working on.

Highmoor is going to be a city/town built on, around, and inside of an "Extreme Hills" biome.  I found it very quickly when I started on VC a few weeks ago, and I've been prepping it ever since.  I'm currently laying down the primary roads, but once that is done I will be breaking ground on my capitol, Highmoor Castle.

It's located in the SW quadrant of Vetronia (as divided by the rail lines), at approximately x-4306, z1687.  Here's a link to it on the DynaMap: http://play.veterancraft.net:2.....8922339998

"/res tp Highmoor" is enabled for staff and donators.  It will drop you in the Plaza right now.  That may change in the future.

The plan is ambitious, as you can see from the roads I've laid out so far (and more to come).  Initial surveys indicate that I'm going to need a full 200x200 Residence, from sea-level up at least to y128, and then a second Res to cover the docks and lake area to the east.  This will be a WIP for as long as I play VC, I'm sure.  Just getting the funds to Res it will take months, even with my current Bishop Salary.

City Features to be built:

  • Highmoor Castle
  • LWK's Mansion
  • LWK's Workstation and Farms
  • Highmoor Plaza and Market (w/ Shop stalls)
  • Skyport (Flagship Airship to Vetropolis, plus others)
  • Minecart Station (possible connections to ADM, Palmanova, and the West Line)
  • Docks (Portal Ships, and Highmoor Fleet)
  • Extras (like Lighthouse, Windmill, roads to other areas, etc.) TBD

Districts with purchasable lots (prices TBD):

  • Highmoor Castle - Nobility Suites
  • Market - Merchant Apartments
  • Moortowne District (eastern slopes of the Moor)
  • Clingman's Canyon (NE canyon)
  • Lakeshore (eastern lake)
  • Cliffside (southern area under cliffs)
  • Ridgeway (SW highlands)
  • Underhill (NW peninsula and lakeside)
  • Lamplight (cavern in the moor)

The style of the city will be medieval with twists.  The construction on the sides of the moor make for some very steep areas.  Little fortresses and towers will jut out randomly where appropriate.

Inspiration for this city....if you picture Narshe from FFVI combined with a Scottish town around a castle, that will probably be pretty close.

Suites and Apartments will have full interior design rights, and lots will be free for construction, however the style for the lots need to be in keeping with the overall theme, otherwise I would exercise my authority to alter the design (while consulting the owner, of course).  Lots will be created as I have the ability to Res them, and I will make updates here on what is available. Expect the Suites, Apartments, Mooretowne, and Lamplight to be ready first.

In the meantime, I will shortly be setting up a shop in Vetropolis to help fund this beast.  Any patronage will be appreciated. Laugh

Pictures to come as soon as I have them!

As you already know, light, I'm very excited to see how this goes! Plus, there are a lot of nice people on this server that will most likely give you a hand in the residence money and such. <img class="spSmiley" title="Wink" onclick="spjEdInsertSmiley('sf-wink.gif', 'Wink', 'http://www.veterancraft.net/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/', 'Wink');" src="/wp-content/sp-resources/forum-smileys/sf-wink.gif" alt="Wink" />

Thanks guys!

And I certainly wouldn't want shills for nothing, ryan, hence the future shop(s).Wink

But what do you mean by a "spot of your own," TSWG?  I haven't planned out the individual plots yet, but I can certainly work  out special larger subzones in advance for those that want to donate more.  What size and location did you have in mind, so I can try and work it into the plan?  It would still have to somewhat keep with the style of the city, tho.  Can't have an Apple Store in the middle of Ye' Olde Europe. Laugh

Ha, firm believer of "if its broke, dont send it to apple".

Spot of my own - was just meaning a dusty spot in the corner should I journey down that part of the map.  Always handy to have a /home set somewhere else.

Yep!  They tend to stick out like a sore thumb.

Ok, that'll work.  I might actually gather requests for people who might want something more substantial than the typical 10x10 or 15x15 plot, and reserve those spots for them.  It could be really cool.Smile

Now my hands getting better i can pop on more often i certainly dont mind giving up my time to help you as i tend to be really flaky with my own town havent been building it for 7 months or anything nor does it only have two buildings >_> i tend to enjoy working with others more so if you want any labour or stuff let me know.

Thanks, Seph, I will let you know.  I'm not a huge fan of hiring labor, since 1) I'm very picky, and 2) not being on flat, cleared land there's no easy job like "flatten this area."  Also, I'm relatively poor so any work would have to be compensated with a plot rather than shillings, and I don't know if people would like that.  But I will definitely keep it in mind, thanks!

As an update, yesterday I was thinking that the area for Moortowne was feeling a little cramped, so I removed a redundant road.  It won't be as easy to find the way into Lamplight, but it does open up some developable area.

Hmm, I missed your post, Sibbit, sorry.

I have had several offers for job help, but atm I'm treading such a fine line with the terraforming.  I don't want to *completely* ruin the terrain as I'm setting things up, so I'm being very careful.  I would probably hire gatherers, but I really have enough right now, plus I get such a cathartic pleasure from the mindless tasks.

Work is progressing steadily, although maybe not visibly.  I've dropped a whole large chest worth of stone bricks this past weekend.  The paths are almost all edged and looking nice, and I'm now going around and adding arches and supports to the undersides of the paths that are hanging.  I'll save the lighting for each district for when I do each one.

I've also decided that the first thing I do, even before I break ground on the Castle, is do the Tavern in the Market, on the NW corner of the Plaza. It will be my first test-shop, selling food and potions, before I spend the funds to open one in Vetropolis.   I'm also planning on having a number of rentable rooms in there, simple things for beginners, mostly.  30s a week or 100s a month in rent, and I provide a bed, a large chest, and a "gift basket" of minor essentials above what they would get for joining.  I don't expect it to make me any money until I have a portal set up, since I'm very, very remote right now, but it feels like a fun concept.Smile

Me too!  Actually, assuming the server is up tonight, I might just forsake the relatively boring path supporting and start straightaway with the Tavern.

"The Drunken Creeper" Laugh

EDIT:  It's mostly done!  A few more details to add (like the cellar), but it's set up.  There are 11 rooms that I'll hopefully be able to rent out, although subzoning was giving me problems last night.  I had a 36-large cuboid selected (3x4x3), but when I created the subzone it was only making it out of a few of the blocks, typically between 3 and 9.  One of them worked, but the others I tried all didn't.  Hmmm, I'll have to delve into it tonight.  The idea being, of course, that each room will be its own subzone.  They're setup to disallow Use and Move, unlike the rest of the Res.  Once rented, I pset the flags to allow Use, Move, and Container for the renter.  It seems like it will work fine....if I can get the subzoning to work.  We'll see!

Then I need to set up the shop there.  Food right now, basic potions later.

Once The Drunken Creeper is finished, I'm planning on doing one more building before I start on the castle: Highmoor City Hall.  It'll have basic info about Highmoor, but will serve primarily as the Planning, Zoning and Real Estate office, so people can check on what's available and how much plots cost.
