Hello everyone. Quite a few of you have probably seen me around by now, but I

am relatively new to VeteranCraft, and also new to SMP with VeteranCraft being

my first public server experience.

I have decided to leave my mark on this wonderful server with an epic city build.

Welcome to Gilead!

Gilead will be a multi-level city sprawling up a mountain and down into a ravine, with the main

design revolving around towers and spires for the mountain portion, and close urban quarters

for the ravine portion.

Note: Dont mind all of the stone. I have only just begun this build, only having put 1 full day into it

so far. In time the decorations and detail will come. Also, I will be inviting residents to help give

Gilead the details that really bring the place to life. For now I am just fleshing out the main starting

structures with cheap materials.

The Welcoming Sign

View from near the sign, with the main tower at top, and a secondary base tower at left.

Image Enlarger

View from a different side of the mountain. Bridge at left will lead to the farming district.

The ravine is located under this bridge.

 Image Enlarger

The current temporary farming district. I really havent put much into it yet, just what

I need to survive while I build. The permanent farming district will occupy this area.

Image Enlarger

A shot of the ravine. The ravine is undeveloped as of yet.

Image Enlarger

Lots of interior space inside the mountain for residences and shops!

Image Enlarger

A small harbor that naturally extends into the mountain (will be developed to make it slightly larger).

Future portal ship(s) will be located here.

Image Enlarger

More rolling hills biome for possible future developement!

Image Enlarger

Plains biome on another side of the mountain.

Image Enlarger

Desert biome also next door, with a forest following the coastline to the left.

As you can probably guess, this is going to be an expensive project, both in terms of residency costs and

material costs. I am inviting anyone to donate shillings or materials toward this project. Donors will recieve

a plaque in the main tower immortalizing their contribution into the very stone that Gilead is made of!

Image Enlarger

Donors Hall of Fame. This area will look much nicer once the main tower is complete.

So, give me your feedback and let me know what you think! I personally think this location will provide a very

awesome and unique location for a city. Also, as the sign in the picture states, if you would like to donate shillings

or materials, please contact me, StevoP80.

Current list of accepted materials:

Cobble

Stone

Iron block

Glass block

Wood/Logs

Emerald block*

Lapiz block*

Diamond block*

Wool (all colors)

Gold block*

Rail pieces

Coal

*These materials are for aesthetic purposes only, and wont be required for a while.

Love your concept.  Where does the name "Gilead" come from?  Also I appreciate it much that you're not just flattening land and using the natural landscape to create your city.  Sounds like you should be Highmoor's sister city :P .

This is my signature and I hope you enjoy it. - Dalferes

Could be this.

In the Bible, Gilead means hill of testimony or mound of witness, a mountainous region east of the Jordan River, situated in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

or like Infect said from Eragon.

It could also be Gilead from Stephen King's Dark Tower cycle. In any case, it looks impressive! Naturally, I do agree that building with the terrain is awesome.

Where is this all located? It's hard to pin-point with DynMap down.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Lightwarrior has it right. The name Gilead comes from Stephen Kings The Dark Tower Series.

I am a huge Stephen King fan, and The Dark Tower is by far my favorite story ever.

@Rikkido - I didnt know about that but tht seems almost a fitting descrition as well lol.

@ Dan - Yes the whole idea is to conform the city to the landscape as much as possible.

Obviously some land will have to be developed, but certainly as little as possible.

@ Infectable - Thanks it is MUCH appreciated. The residency cost is going to be huge. I priced

the farming district through the main tower and the cost was over 30,000 shillings, and this doesnt

include much interior of the mountain, and none of the ravine. I am considering upgrading to

Viceroy to help fund this part as well.

@ Light - Its hard for me to say where it is located without DynMap as well. My original res was NW of

Spent (atleast one of his settlements) and this place is a decent boat ride NW of my original settlement.

I havent seen any neighbors yet in atleast a 100-200 block radius around me.

That is awesome. I was thinking of building figlonia where I think u are but I moved to a forest because it has a closer supply of wood and I needed a flat space and a wall. But I can give u an embassy in my city when yours is more complete

Hey guys, I made a quick video tour to show some more of the progress so far.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v.....vKUk01LzvA

@ Gunnerling - The ravine is located under the bridge leading to the farming district. The city will literally just

descend down into it by way of stairs and such. Each wall of the ravine will be developed to contain shops,

residences, and any other cool features I or others can dream up. I envision it looking similar to a Dwarven

city from a R. A. Salvatore novel.

Let me know what you think of the video tour so far.

Also, I did more work last night after shooting the video, so it doesnt contain any footage of the glass diamond

or the giant tree that is currently being built. I'll post some screenshots of those in the next post.

Ok so here are some screenshots of the glass diamond and the tree. Multiple angles of each

so I wont bother to label each of them.

Entrance, interior, and exterior shot of the diamond.

And now for the tree. Still a work in progress. I currently need and am farming tons and tons of jungle leaves.

And there is the full updated progress so far.

Not too shabby for 2 days work I think!

Is this city near yertopia? If so, I built a road leading to my settlement. Um please don't destroy it. If you need it removed I can rebuild it around your city. Or it could stay where it is and be a link between yertopia, Gilead, and WindBorro (my sky settlement) and to an extention, Scotland. This could greatly increase tourism between our towns. But this is all speculation. I'm not 100% positive that your town is near Yertopia.

Without Dynamap I cant be 100% sure where Gilead is, but I do not think it is near Yertopia, and really not

near any other towns or cities.

Even without Dynmap, you all can still compare coordinates.  If you're a couple hundred of in either or both axes, you're probably "close."

That's a pretty unique-looking place Steve. Digging it so far! (not literally digging there, because that'd be griefing) :)

I told the doctor I broke my leg in two places. He told me to stop going to those places.

A lot of work has been done recently.

Jonthepope was commissioned to build the vault, which looks wonderful. Thanks Jon.

Lots of work has gone into Gileads entrance, portal ship, harbor, and lots of detail work on each.

Here is the latest picture showing as much of the new work as possible.

I must say, the city is really starting to take shape and look more and more like the vision

I had for it. As always, leave some feedback and let me know what you think!

Very cool. You should add a page for your town in the Lore Wiki
