Hello!

I have recently decided to start a new city, and I figured it would be a good idea to make a topic about it. To keep everyone updated, but also for others to post suggestions or questions.

I wanted an area of land which was enclosed by water on three sides (atleast one had to be an ocean). After a while I found the spot I wanted to build the city at:

For now it is only a guideline of stone which will eventually be build into a wall.

Once the wall is completed and all the trees within have been removed, I will start planning what buildings will go where. It'd be nice to receive suggestions on what buildings should be added!

Update #1:

Started on the walls, it is going a bit slow since it is not the most exciting part of the city. To take a break from that I have made some plans for what goes where around the city:

There will be (atleast) two gates in the city, marked by the white lines along the red border of the wall. Those will be redstone gates. Also I'd like a gate on the spot at "optional gate", that would be a gate for boats, so it'd have to be partly underwater, not sure if this is possible with redstone. 

I have marked the harbor district, this will contain atleast one portal ship (maybe more in the future) and more decorational ships. Also there will be the usual buildings a harbor should have (storage, some shops, etc.)

Also I have marked the village area, that will be a less dense populated area outside the city walls. Here will be large fields of wheat and other crops. Also there will be small shops, market squares, taverns and more.

I have a vague idea of what should be in the city, suggestions are always welcome!

Since this update I have a job open:

I need someone that can build me 2 (and maybe a 3rd underwater) portcullius gate. It has to open with the use of buttons, and they also have to open/close at sunrise and sunset. If this is something you'd like to do, we can talk about the payment

I'd be interested in the porticullis job. I'd build them the same way they are at blue city which open at day, close at night but can be temporarily opened with a button press
