THE DEADLINE HAS BEEN INCREASED. THE NEW DATE IS WEDSNDAY, THE 29TH.

Welcome to VeteranCraft's next event, the train station design! The station's new design is long overdue, so it's time to get the design we have been looking for.

Where to Build

You should build the train station in your own world on creative so we can get a good design, and then either show us screenshots or give us the world file. The building will then be built in Vetropolis as part of our first timelapse! If you don't know where the train station is, its HERE.

Guidelines

We are trying to add more color to Vetropolis, so the main block used should be red brick (like the VCU), or possibly sandstone. Use what you find necessary but keep the overall theme like Vetropolis. Note that the main frame of the build must be 36 (the back and front) by 40 (the sides) blocks and that you will be only designing the exterior and upstairs interior. The downstairs part that is already at Vetropolis will be kept. You would be essentially building a building over the existing basement.

To Recap:

  • Main building material to be redbrick or sandstone (other blocks as accents fine)
  • 36 blocks wide
  • 40 blocks deep
  • No taller than the neighboring Capitol Building
  • Preserves existing basement/functionality of station
  • Must match the Gothic/Victorian architecture style of the other public buildings in Vetropolis

Length of Event

This event is starting once this blog post is up. You must submit your design by 12:00 AM EST on Wedsnday, August 29th. To submit your design, post screenshots and description to the forum thread attached to this post.

Reward

There will only be one winner. There will be no 2nd or 3rd place.

  • 25,000 Shillings
  • $10 PlayStation Network Gift Card
  • Lead the Project
  • Get a Timelapse Video of Your Design Being Built

How to Join

You can join by simply posting on this blog/forum post that you are taking part, and then you go right ahead and start building! When you are done with your design, post screenshots and a description on the forum thread attached to this post - (At the bottom of this page if you're viewing on the home page blog).

Questions? Ask!

If you have any questions that were not answered here, feel free to ask.

*Disclaimer: Meatbawllz reserves the right to extend the design contest, or not choose any winning design should participation be low, or no fitting designs are submitted.

Almost done with my design, looks great to me. Pictures will be posted some time tonight or whenever I'm done.

Even if you find it to be filled with disgust and agony, it's a place that is yours and /can/ be repaired... If you have the right tools, that is... Happy Trails...

I've spent some money on our little video productions :)  I have a brand spanking new HDD to save up to 5 hours of film onto directly.  spend your time wisely on the build, and direct your minions assertively!

(5 hours doesn't seem like much, granted.  but recording 1920x1080 HD takes up space, especially raw data film!)

There are 3 steps one must take to profit in today's economy: 1.) Learn from lessons taught by others 2.) Don't give away everything you know.

I shall most certainly be participating in this friendly competition good sir!

Also, is the front of the building on the 36 block side, or the 40 block side. I would log on and check myself but the server appears to be down at the moment.

One other quick question, is the position of the basement stairs a bit flexible or do they have to remain where they are now?

Flexible, but the functionality of the rail system should remain intact.

All right! I'm done with my design and feel proud of it. It may look cooler with the new emerald block in my texture pack, but it still works in default. So the thing I was going for was a revamp of the old Mine Cart Station. I kept the same depth and sort of the same styles to it, but I replaced most of the blocks with a nice smooth sandstone and red brick design. I also decided that I wanted to place a glass roof to place with a central pillar in it for support and for style. This also allowed me to create the nice wall with upper window to look through. When I first entered the old train station, one of my first thoughts was that there was an over love of fountains at the front, so I replaced that large pool with two nice looking, good sized fountains in the back corners. I expanded the waiting area just to make it look more legit, like the Cart Station was constantly busy and needed the room to seat waiters. I also moved the travel times and made the sign larger, as well as placed it next to a new walk in storage area {one on both sides} and the shop to buy your "Ticket" {Minecart}. I also do not have all the redstone stuff on here mostly because I was enable to see the system... So, if you choose my design someone will have to place that in as we go. I hope you like my idea and I really hope I win.

This has to be the largest kick in the face ever....

I was a little too excited and thought we were making a new underground area.... Then I go back and read that it's the upstairs area.....

Nevermind my post...... Frown

Ok I realize that this is a lot to ask, but would it be possible to shift the stairs to the back of the lot? As it is, the stairs are positioned right beside where the entrance will be. This makes it both impractical to design around as well as very unsymmetrical. Once again, I know it's a lot to ask, but it would be incredibly helpful to my (and probably others) design if we could move the stair (and only the stairs, nothing else needs to change) to the back of the lot.

Ryan is free to contradict me here, but as far as I'm aware you're allowed to move the basement stuff around. You just have to ensure you leave room for a cart shop, the mechanical portion, and some sort of staircase to get around.

Again - I may be incorrect.

As much as I'd love to say that your were wrong (just kidding Kiss), I think it's fine to move aesthetic stuff around if it's necessary to make the build look nice. I think Meat can give a more solid answer though.

So unfortunately I won't be able to finish my build on time.  Plus I kinda lost the whole build concept when working on side 4.  I don't believe this will be an official submission because of it being incomplete but this is the concept I came up with:

I really like your design Dal.... I take it you only fail at the surviving/gathering part of MC but not the building part.

From the 2 designs I've seen I just want to clarify in case it was misunderstood, to use either sandstone or redbrick as the MAIN material, not necessarily both. You're free to submit such a design but I just want to make it clear that you're allowed to use either or. And also you're more than welcome to use other materials for trim and roof etc.

@tim, yes you can move the stairs. You can add a floor where was once open before. You can add a food court, ticket booth, offices, whatever a trainstation would have. Just don't mess around with the function of the railways (ie. where you push the button to go to the destination etc... ) anything aesthetic is free game.
