Howdy people, Okarim, harbourmaster of Cape Town here! Now, as some of you might know, Cape Town intends to have a massive portalfleet. But what is a fleet without a flagship? So today I’d like to announce to you a contest to design this flagship, Harer Majesteits De Goede Hoop! That’d be Her “Netherlands Majesty’s Ship of Good Hope” in English. While only one design will get this honour, there are still prices for runners-up.
Time and Place
The contest has already started on the 5th, its deadline is June 19 (Tuesday) at 24:00 GMT. It will not take place in VeteranCraft, since a lot of materials would go into such a design. Instead, everyone will be allowed to build their design in creative singleplayer. This way neither death nor materials will get in the way of building optimal designs!
Winners will be announced on June 22 (Friday), which is the 1-year anniversary of VeteranCraft. The winner announcement will come with images and feedback of all participating designs, all prices will be paid out immediately at that point.
The Rewards
- 1st Place: §50,000
- 2nd Place: §30,000
- 3rd Place: §20,000
- Remaining: Variable
The victor’s design will be built as the flagship of Cape Town’s portalfleet. She will be located at the far West side of the Cape Town Port. Other submitted designs will be kept available for future usage, either in Cape Town’s service, that of other cities or the government’s. Good designs will still get a reward even if they do not make it into the top-3, but do not expect a weak attempt to get much of a reward.
The Tools
Players are to design the ship in singleplayer, then turn in the world savefile. Afterwards I will use a combination of MCEdit and the Minecraft Structure Planner to create blueprints. Since details are lost in the Structure Planner, due to being outdated, it’s not advised for players to use this tool for the final design. It can of course be a useful intermediate tool.
Requirements
The best place to check the requirements would be the contest’s topic, which also is where people can ask questions about the contest.
How You Can Join
You can join by posting a message in the topic, stating that you will be attempting to build a design. There is no deadline to when such an intent must be declared, nor does it require you to actually turn in a design. When done, the savefile must be uploaded to the web and a link must be sent to me by PM. Public posts are allowed but keep in mind that would allow others to rip off your design.
Cool stuff, I am thinking about entering. 😀
I shall enter this contest. It shall be great!
Btw, does it have any rules of builds?
Rules are in the topic, Xeried. There’s size-requirements as well as some about the sails. The ship is to be the biggest on the server so far. =)
Ok, so the reqs. are
1. Be HUGE :L
2: Must have a HUGE sail too 😛
3. Must be called Harer Majesteits De Goede Hoop
My Ship Is Bigger
Fatter, yes. =) But not longer, and with just the one sail. =p
This comment is pretty pointless, Fig. Try to refrain from posting things like this. (:

Hopefully this will help.
Sorry, but no. The rules of the contest clearly state I must receive a savefile of the ship. Screenshots do not suffice. I cannot judge the size requirements, nor can I check out the hull and decks. Furthermore, what I can see is that you do not have 3~4 masts, do not have sails, do not have lapis embossing, there is no forecastle and the design lacks a gundeck and cannons. So 3 requirements I cannot check, all others are not met.
Correction, I just used MSPaint and the lines in the textures to check the size. A 17×50 hull does not meet the 15x(72~78) hullsize requirements, as such your entry has not met a single requirement of the contest.
I registered an account just in case but no luck, the folder appears empty. You really should have tested that download without being logged in to make sure it’d work.
Contest has closed. It was a close call, aside from the winner.
Fourth place went to scottiefinn, who received 15.000 for his design. Third was MrSpectator for 20.000. Despite severe setbacks and a missing mast due to that, Spentxlr8tion still managed to score second and received 30.000. And finally, above the others stood LightWarriorK, thus receiving a grand total of 50.000, half a Viceroy’s salary!
Prices have been paid out, images and detailed feedback will be posted on the 22nd.
