What Are Portal Ships?
Portal Ships are the only portals (apart from nether portals) that we use in VeteranCraft. A portal ship is a ship that has an identical duplicate at an other far away sea port, and when you enter the ship on either side, you can portal over to the other one. The effect is that the ship has sailed to the other harbor. Ships are privately owned by players.
Why Portal Ships?
In an effort to have a unique role-playing experience of travel, without the inconvenience of only having to walk long distances, we decided to do something unique, to ease all parties. With portal ships, teleportation is limited to ships, and provides a bit of a more realistic experience.
Another reason we are implementing portal ships is to encourage players to build near each other. Not everyone will immediately be able to afford a portal ship, but they may build within walking distance of another portal ship, or build a railway between their place and a town with a portal ship, which will keep us all connected in a fun and unique way.
How do I Get a Portal Ship?
To qualify for a portal ship, both destinations must be touching ocean, or have access to ocean (ie. river). There must be a realistic water way between the two destinations, of which can accommodate the height and width of the ship. Portal ships are not available inland. Inland travel will primarily be by rail or rivers. Keep this in mind when planning out your settlement or town.
For Vetropolis:
- Designs for ships moored at Vetropolis Harbor must be preapproved. No hard feelings, but to keep the capital of Vetronia presentable and achieving our theme as the jewel of the server, we require designs to be complementary to Vetropolis’s theme. You can also contract an authorized builder to build a ship from a select set of plans; fees will be based on the going rate of building materials. We may pre-build and list for sale some ships for you to choose from, both large and small.
- The cost of the portal itself (to and from both locations) is VC§10,000. The portal will not be visible. Once a player walks to a designated spot on the ship, they will be teleported to that spot on the clone ship.
- Once built, the ship will be cloned (one of the few instances where we use WorldEdit) to make the other end of the connection. The destination ship is yours to do with as you please. The Vetropolis side belongs to the server.
- In Vetropolis Harbor, large ship plots are VC§5,000 and small ship plots are VC§500. This price is in addition to the portal itself.
For Other Destinations:
- Ships going between 2 other destinations are free to be built by the owner. The only design requirement is that it is a sea-going ship, and that the 2 ship locations are actually accessible to each other by water. There must be a realistic water way between the two destinations, of which can accommodate the height and width of the ship. Not a spaceship, not an airship, not a giant cube. Simply a boat. Size is up to you.
- The cost of the portal itself between 2 destinations will cost VC§10,000.
- You are responsible for building ships at both ends.
Process of Setting Up a Portal Ship
- Post a portal ship request here. Your request should include the following
- If you are building your own ship, please provide a link or reference to the design so that it may be approved.
- If you are looking to have a ship built, please indicate what type of ship you want so that a builder may contact you.
- Destination coordinates for Vetropolis bound connections; or, source and destination coordinates for other connections.
- You, or the builder, should post a follow up to the request once the ship(s) is ready to be connected. To avoid any unnecessary delays, please make sure that you have sufficient funds to cover the 10,000 Shillings portal fee.
- A Technician will create portal links and debit fees from your account.
Portal Airships

Example of an acceptable airship design.
We’ve implemented portal airships to allow for transport between locations that don’t have access to sea. The same basic rules apply for portal airships as portal ships.
The Vetropolis Airship Port allows for a variety of lengths (bow to stern) and height (keel to peak). The width (port to starboard) might interfere with other ships or docks if it is too large, but a overall width of 11 fits easily in all slips (ship docking spots), and for some slips a width of 13 will still work well.
With a width of 11-13, a length of 31 and a height of 19 looks appropriate, and I would submit the maximum limits for portal airships to be 31 length, 11-13 width, and 19 height. Additionally, there is room for hot air balloons in this port. Any airship designs must be approved by staff.
Airship Portal Cost: 10,000 shillings
Docking in Vetropolis Cost:
- 15x15x29 (hot air balloon): 2,000 shillings
- 11x31x19: 5,000 shillings
- 13x31x19: 7,000 shillings
